The musical artist, whose birth name is Anthony Leonard Platt, became well-known for his debut single “Walk It Out,” which was released in 2006 and achieved a Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
DJ Unk passes away at 43
On January 24, 2025, DJ Unk’s spouse, Sherkita Long-Plat, posted on Facebook to announce his passing. At the time of his death, he was 43 years old.
Anthony, please show us kindness and understanding as we grieve our loss. My husband has passed away, leaving my children without their father. Our lives have been forever changed. I will always cherish you, Anthony.
According to TMZ, citing Long-Plat, it was reported that Unk passed away in his sleep on January 24 following a heart attack. Long-Plat clarified to the outlet that she wanted to set the record straight regarding the rumors surrounding Unk’s death and shared that he died of natural causes, not due to any drug-related complications.

Big Oomp Records, the label that once brought us his music, shared their sorrow in a touching Instagram post. The post reads: “With a heavy heart and profound sadness, we announce the passing of a true ATL legend, DJ Unk.” They continued by expressing their condolences to his family, friends, and fans, acknowledging the impact he had on us all with his artistry and spirit.
Unk’s first album, ‘Beat’n Down Yo Block!’, included the hit song “Walk It Out”. This track helped him establish himself firmly in the music business. After that, he released another album titled ‘Second Season’ in 2008, which had moderate success. Unfortunately, Unk faced health problems throughout his career, and these are said to have affected his professional life. In 2016, he experienced a mild heart attack, following which he is reported to have quit smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol.
