Award-winning actor Sterling K. Brown has teamed up once more with Dan Fogelman, the creator of This Is Us, for the Hulu series titled “Paradise”. This thrilling sci-fi drama centers around a Secret Service agent safeguarding a former U.S. President. The series premiered on Hulu and Disney+ slightly ahead of its planned three-episode debut, leaving viewers intrigued by its surprising conclusion. In recent interviews, Brown and Fogelman have shed light on the major plot twist towards the end of the first episode.
Sterling K. Brown and Dan Fogelman explain Paradise Episode 1’s ending
Towards the finale of the show, hints are dropped suggesting that Paradise is set in a world post-apocalypse, and the initial settlement the characters live in is a bunker. Moreover, it seems that Xavier Collins, portrayed by Brown, could be the culprit behind President Cal Bradford’s murder (played by James Marsden), as he appears to believe that the other man was responsible for his wife’s demise. In conversations with Variety, both Brown and Fogelman discuss the episode ending and what viewers can anticipate in the upcoming episodes.
Pondering over the finale of Paradise Episode 1, Brown remarked about the surprising twist regarding the hidden bunker. “The sprinklers are on, and so forth, but then you jump to the end, zoom in, and discover that the sprinklers are actually releasing dye to color the grass,” he explained. “The ducks were present throughout. And then it hits you, ‘Wow, is this The Truman Show? Are you joking me? These people are in a bunker?’ Your mind just explodes with surprise! It wasn’t something you anticipated, was it?
In his interview with the outlet, Fogelman explained that there are two intriguing enigmas unfolding in Paradise. The first centers around a large-scale conspiracy concerning the fate of the world beyond the bunker. Simultaneously, the second mystery delves into the circumstances surrounding Xavier’s wife’s death, Cal’s potential involvement in it, and Cal’s own murder.
According to Fogelman, the audience would unravel the answers to every question concerning the larger enigma of the world’s puzzle by the conclusion of the seventh episode. Yet, they must exercise patience and tune in for Episode 8 to finally receive clarification on the secondary mystery.
After the initial three episodes aired on January 28, the final five episodes of “Paradise” will be released each Tuesday on both Hulu and Disney+.
