The tale of Gandhi and Chettu chronicles the life of Ramachandraiah, portrayed by Anand Chakrapani, an affectionate follower of Mahatma Gandhi who cherishes a simple lifestyle and admires nature deeply. He has a profound connection to a tree in his village, and he names his granddaughter after Mahatma Gandhi, whom he greatly respects. The granddaughter, played by Sukriti Veni, forms a strong bond with him, and she embodies his principles of truthfulness and non-violence in her everyday existence.
Trouble arises when the character played by Rag Mayur, representing an industrialist, comes into town with plans for a chemical factory. Several villagers, who are finding it difficult to make ends meet through farming, decide to sell their land. Yet, Ramachandraiah resists surrendering his property. The narrative progresses as Gandhi stands strong against the tide of industrialization and champions the cause of preserving her grandfather’s tree and the village.
