Robert Eggers’ Werwulf Release Date Set, First Details Revealed

Robert Eggers’ upcoming film has been officially confirmed. The director is set to revisit the realm of terrifying beings, this time focusing on a werewolf story entitled “Werwulf“.

When is the Werwulf release date?

Based on THR reports, it’s been announced that Eggers’ upcoming film is set to premiere on December 25, 2026, continuing the director’s trend of releasing major films on Christmas Day. This follows in the footsteps of his successful release of Nosferatu, which also debuted on Christmas and has since become a massive box office hit, grossing over $150 million worldwide.

The report from THR states that the upcoming movie named “Werwulf” is confirmed to be a horror film featuring werewolves. Taika Waititi and Sjón, who often collaborate with Eggers, will pen the script for this project. Interestingly, Eggers will once again join forces with Focus Features, having previously worked with them on “Nosferatu.

Current information about the project is limited, but it’s expected to take place during the 13th century in England. Similar to Eggers’ other works, the dialogue and settings will be historically accurate for that time period. Contrary to earlier speculation, the film won’t be in black and white, as reported by THR.

Before the official announcement of Werwulf, there were whispers that Eggers was chosen to direct a new Labyrinth movie. Additionally, Eggers has expressed his desire to create a medieval film currently called The Knight, along with harboring aspirations to make a Western production at some point. Furthermore, he’s been hinted to be developing a miniseries centering around Grigori Rasputin, the renowned Russian mystic and faith healer.

At present, the actors for the film “Werwulf” remain unidentified. However, during the promotional tour for “Nosferatu,” director Eggers hinted that he had invited Willem Dafoe to star in two of his upcoming productions.
