It has been rumored that Chris Pine could potentially star as the main character in Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, a movie directed by Patty Jenkins. This film, initially announced in 2020, aims to present a fresh cast of space fighter pilots within an innovative narrative. The project restarted after Jenkins reconnected with Lucasfilm in 2022, and it’s currently still being drafted. More information regarding casting and release is yet to be disclosed.
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron rumored to reunite Chris Pine with Patty Jenkins
According to reports, Chris Pine is being looked at for the main character in Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, a movie directed by Patty Jenkins. A reliable source named MyTimeToShineHello posted on X (previously Twitter), “Chris Pine is being considered for the lead in the Star Wars: Rogue Squadron film, which has recently resumed production.” Since they have previously collaborated on Wonder Woman and its sequel, there are talks about a possible reunion between them.
During a chat on the Talking Pictures Podcast, Jenkins hinted at her rejoining Rogue Squadron. She mentioned during the conversation, “When I stepped away from Star Wars for Wonder Woman 3, we discussed the possibility of me returning to Star Wars after Wonder Woman 3 was completed.
Following the postponement of Wonder Woman 3, Jenkins secured a fresh agreement with Lucasfilm. “Now I’m tasked with writing a Star Wars script,” she explained, continuing, “Let’s aim for a version that leaves us both thrilled.
The project was initially unveiled in December 2020, promising a fresh batch of starfighter pilots for an exhilarating journey through space. Its objective was to propel the Star Wars narrative into a new epoch. However, development seems to have stalled in 2021 because of Jenkins’ other obligations.
Following her departure from Wonder Woman 3 in 2022, Jenkins returned to working on Rogue Squadron. In April 2023, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced that the project was being considered (as reported by The Playlist). She also hinted at a possible transformation of the concept into a television series.
Since the release of The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, Lucasfilm has encountered difficulties arranging a theatrical debut. However, the upcoming Star Wars movie starring Grogu and the Mandalorian is scheduled to hit theaters on May 22, 2026.
