The Toxic Avenger Remake With Peter Dinklage Will Receive Theatrical Release

Approximately two years after its initial debut at Fantastic Fest, the remake of The Toxic Avenger has now been confirmed for a theatrical screening.

When is The Toxic Avenger releasing in theaters?

On Tuesday, it was revealed that Cineverse, known for its role in distributing the Terrifier series, has struck a deal with Lionsgate to release their upcoming movie some time in 2025. Earlier, there were reports suggesting the film had been struggling to find a distributor because of its graphic violence content.

According to reports from Variety, Macon Blair, the director, commended the agreement and expressed his joy that audiences will have the opportunity to watch the film in cinemas. He referred to it as an entertaining, boisterous movie that is best enjoyed with a group of people.

In a statement, director Blair expressed heartfelt appreciation towards the ‘The Toxic Avenger’ team for their unwavering support during our search for the ideal distributor for our film. It’s thrilling that audiences will now get to enjoy this movie in theaters, as it’s an exciting, rowdy spectacle best watched with a crowd. With a mutant hero using a mop to crush villains, it’s family-friendly entertainment at its finest! Our aim was to maintain the essence and soul of the original Toxie (a memory deeply ingrained in my childhood) while also creating something innovative for Troma fans, yet still staying true to the character. Working with Lloyd and Michael at Troma has been a joy, and I can’t wait to collaborate with the exceptional team at Legendary and Cinverse to share this version of Toxie with both new and long-time fans.

The movie that premiered in 2023 initially had its footage captured back in 2021. It kickstarted Fantastic Fest that year, and later graced numerous other film festivals as well. This new adaptation revives the legendary 1984 film bearing the same title, helmed by Michael Herz and Lloyd Kaufman, and produced by Troma Entertainment. Over time, it transformed into a beloved cult classic within its genre, inspiring a whole universe of media centered around the character.

In the new version of The Toxic Avenger, we have Peter Dinklage, Luisa Guerreiro, Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, Kevin Bacon, Sarah Niles, Julia Davis, Julian Kostov, Elijah Wood, David Yow, Macon Blair, Jonny Coyne, Jane Levy, and Rebecca O’Mara playing key roles.
