After making its premiere in January, it was announced by ABC that Tim Allen’s latest comedy series titled “Gear Shift” has established a brand-new viewership milestone. Former cast member of “2 Broke Girls”, Kat Dennings, heads this sitcom as well.

Shifting Gears becomes ABC’s most-watched series debut on streaming

Shifting Gears has surpassed The Conners as ABC’s most popular series on Hulu and Disney+, setting new records since its debut in 2018. Within the first week of release, the show attracted nearly 17 million viewers across all platforms. Furthermore, it is now among the top broadcast series premieres for this television season.

In a nutshell, the story follows Matt (Allen), the strong-willed proprietor of an antique car repair shop, who’s been a widower. His estranged daughter Riley (Dennings) and her children arrive to live with him. This isn’t just about fixing old cars anymore; it’s about mending relationships as well. In the past, Riley had frequent disputes with her father and chose to marry a man he despised. Now divorced, Riley returns home with her kids, hoping for a chance at reconciliation between them.

The principal actors consist of Allen playing Matt, Dennings portraying Riley, Seann William Scott taking on the role of Gabriel, Daryl Chill Mitchell as Stitch, Maxwell Simkins as Carter, Barrett Margolis as Georgia, and Jenna Elfman assuming the character of Eve Drake. Brenda Song is expected to appear as a guest star in the role of Caitlyn. The show is overseen by Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully, who have collaborated with Allen before on Last Man Standing. Allen, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, and Rick Messina are among the executive producers, with Dennings also contributing to production. The series is produced by 20th Television.
