What is Opus about?
In the plot summary for the movie, it’s stated that a budding author receives an invitation to visit a secluded estate belonging to a renowned pop icon who vanished 30 years earlier. Amidst the star’s devoted followers and tipsy reporters, she finds herself enmeshed in his intricate and sinister scheme.
In the movie, Edebiri, who’s recognized for her roles including FX’s The Bear, will portray a character named Ariel, a young writer. On the other hand, Malkovich takes on the role of the enigmatic pop star, Moretti, who has gone missing.
As stated by the Sundance Film Festival, this film is characterized as “vibrant, amusing, and eye-catching in the horror genre,” and includes “striking, synthesizer-based musical sequences.” The movie provides a thought-provoking critique of the cult of celebrity, enveloped within a symphonic atmosphere. It subtly explores how power is created and ingrained within popular culture.
In addition to the movie’s main actors, you’ll find Amber Midthunder from the film “Prey”, Murray Bartlett known for “The White Lotus”, Juliette Lewis who stars in “Yellowjackets”, Stephanie Suganami from “Power Book II: Ghost”, Young Mazino famous for “Beef”, Tatanka Means, star of “Killers of the Flower Moon”, and Tony Hale, an actor from “Arrested Development” on our screen.
In this movie, The-Dream and Nile Rodgers are responsible for composing unique tunes. They also take on the role of executive producers, working alongside Charles D. King and Sara Newkirk. Additionally, Collin Creighton, Brad Weston, Poppy Hanks, Jelani Johnson, and Josh Bachove contribute as producers.
At the stroke of midnight on January 27, 2025, Opus is set to make its grand debut at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. Following this premiere, the film will hit U.S. cinemas on March 14, 2025, distributed by A24.
