Born in Reading, Berkshire, Sykes first showed an affinity for the guitar at age 14. Prior to joining Tygers of Pan Tang, he was a member of a music group known as Streetfighter. Following his departure from Tygers of Pan Tang, Sykes became a part of Thin Lizzy. Upon Thin Lizzy’s dissolution, Sykes went on to become a member of Whitesnake, where he contributed to several of his most recognized musical endeavors.
Later on, Whitesnake let go of Sykes, and he subsequently founded the hard rock band Blue Murder. Additionally, he pursued a career as a solo artist.
