Here’s how Kitty’s mother died in XO, Kitty
In the novel “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before,” penned by Jenny Han, it is revealed that Kitty’s mother suffered a severe head injury after falling and hitting her head forcefully on the ground, eventually resulting in her untimely demise.
In XO, Kitty, the character Kitty prioritizes Eve in her narrative, driving her desire to attend the prestigious college where her mom once studied and discover more about her roots. As the series progresses into its second season, Kitty delves deeper into her background and her mother’s past by uncovering secrets hidden within letters from the 1990s. These letters are handed over by Peter Kavinsky (played by Noah Centineo) to Eve Song. It was actually Simon, Eve’s cousin and Kitty’s mother, who initially sent these letters revealing their shared history.
One of the letters suggests that Eve, accompanied by her 3-year-old cat named Kitty, were originally planned to travel to Korea to meet Eve’s aunt (mother’s sister) in the past. Unfortunately, a terrible event transpired, preventing Eve from ever reuniting with Simon. Regrettably, Eve never had the opportunity to visit her mother’s relatives in Korea because she passed away before they could make the trip. However, Kitty chooses to carry out Eve’s dream of connecting with their family members by visiting them instead.
In the final scene, she successfully brings her grandmother back together with her sister. Neither the TV series “XO, Kitty” nor Han’s film adaptation has revealed Eve’s on-screen death. However, the book reveals that she passed away from an unexpected accident involving a fall and head injury. At the time, Kitty was still quite young. Her mother’s memory lives on in her through a well-known song.
