Dan Slott, a writer who’s won an Eisner award and has been shaping Spider-Man stories at Marvel Comics for nearly 15 years, and who often criticizes longtime fans of his work, has decided to switch sides and now work for DC Comics, overseeing their primary legacy character.
In a notable shift, Marvel’s long-term contracted writer, Slott, will mark his first appearance with DC in the series “Superman Unlimited“. This monthly comic will feature illustrations by Rafael Albuquerque, renowned for his work on the critically acclaimed horror comic “American Vampire“. The announcement was made by DC on Thursday.
Not everyone thinks this is a good move for DC Comics.
The title is being heavily promoted as the “key player” in a company-wide campaign called “Summer of Superman,” linked to James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie. This initial production from Warner Bros. Discovery’s DC Studios, set to debut on July 11, is being seen as the potential synergy that DC Comics might benefit from.
In an excited announcement, Slott expressed, “He’s the original and most remarkable superhero ever, and I’ve longed for years to craft tales about him. It’s not merely due to his extraordinary abilities, but because of the depth of his character.
Let’s see how this strategy works out for them.
