Fans of Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and other beloved titles by Square Enix have long regarded their cafes in Japan as must-visit destinations. Regrettably, the first one, nestled in Akihabara, is set to shut down by March.
This morning, the Square Enix Cafe situated in Akihabara, Japan revealed its impending shutdown in a statement. “Words cannot convey my appreciation for the incredible support you’ve given us,” they expressed. The cafe will cease operations on March 31, 2025.
It’s been confirmed that the Square Enix Cafe in Shinjuku, which serves as a dual shop for merchandise, will continue to operate. The Akihabara Square Enix Cafe was launched on October 1, 2016. Over its almost nine years of operation, it hosted numerous events and promotions that coincided with new game launches from Square Enix.
