NEXON’s loot shooter game The First Descendant is trying to win back players by introducing “wiggle physics” and an abundance of fresh content, but so far, these efforts seem unsuccessful as the number of players keeps decreasing each day.

As I eagerly anticipated Season 3, with its fresh characters and significant upgrades hinting at a potential new Destiny, I found myself drawn in by the promise. However, it seems that The First Descendant is swiftly morphing into a modern-day replica of Destiny, as players are rapidly abandoning the game in droves.
According to journalist Paul Tassi, who follows various live-service loot games, NEXON’s live-service game has seen a dramatic decrease in Steam players – a staggering 95.5% drop within six months. Despite an impressive launch with over 264,000 concurrent players on Steam, the daily peak player count is now at only 12,366.
In this discussion, I failed to bring up First Descendant as it simply slipped my mind.

It’s not just The First Descendant that’s experiencing a decrease in active players among live-service video games; even Destiny 2 has witnessed a significant exodus of gamers following the launch of The Final Shape, with subsequent story arcs showing continued drops in player numbers.
Despite NEXON’s game boasting an impressive 2025 roadmap filled with new characters, skins, weapons, and gameplay mechanics, the updates seem to be falling short, struggling to attract both existing players and new ones. With no growth in sight, even with TikTok advertisements and various marketing strategies, TFD might not endure as long as its dedicated fanbase desires. At least it’s managing to outlive Concord for now.
