As a gaming aficionado, I’ve decided to take a break, at least temporarily, from my Bee Gees biopic project. Ridley Scott made that call, but hey, we all need a breather sometimes!
Excitedly, I shared the news that Scott, fresh off collaborating with Paul Mescal on Gladiator II, was set to helm a Bee Gees biopic titled “You Should Be Dancing.” Initially scheduled for filming in early 2025, I had been eagerly anticipating this project. However, in November 2024, it was revealed that Scott will direct another movie first, titled “The Dog Stars,” before diving into the world of disco with the Bee Gees biopic.
After the announcement, Scott informed Deadline that the Bee Gees movie encountered a “setback.” At first, he didn’t provide details about the problem but mentioned his hope to revisit it by the close of 2025.
What did Ridley Scott say about his Bee Gees movie?
In an interview with GQ Magazine, Scott opened up about his decision to focus on new endeavors and shared the reasons behind this change.
In simpler terms, Scott stated, “The agreement – they moved the finish line, which I found unacceptable. I told them, ‘That’s not allowed.’ But they persisted. I warned them, ‘If you continue, I will leave this project and move on to another one.’ They didn’t think I was serious, but I followed through with my threat.
Scott remains optimistic that the problems will be resolved, enabling him to shoot the Bee Gees movie by the end of the year; yet, the production is temporarily on hold at present.
He expressed that they were demanding too much from him, to which he responded firmly, “No. Next!” Apparently, they weren’t satisfied with his terms. So, he decided to walk away, stating, “I might be costly, but I’m extraordinarily skilled.
About the movie’s subject matter, Scott mentioned, “I found the working-class aspect of the Bee Gees intriguing. The story revolves around sibling rivalry… And then tragedy strikes as Andy tragically overdosed at 30. It’s not just about luck but rather their gift that makes it a captivating tale.
