Valorant’s Esports Scene Continues To Grow

2024 was already an extraordinary year for Valorant, the community, and especially the pro scene.

Riot Games observed a substantial jump in the number of people tuning in to watch the VCT leagues, with some events drawing as much as 50% more spectators. The highest viewership was recorded during a VCT tournament held in China, reaching an impressive peak of approximately 1.88 million viewers watching simultaneously.

Furthermore, Sentinels’ renowned player TenZ declared his exit from professional gaming, EDward Gaming became the first Chinese squad to win an international VCT title, and once more, Shopify Rebellion reigned supreme at the Game Changers Championship.

Or:

Additionally, TenZ, a legendary player for Sentinels, decided to retire from professional play; EDward Gaming made history by becoming the first Chinese team to win an international VCT tournament; and Shopify Rebellion continued their dominance by winning the Game Changers Championship again.

As a dedicated enthusiast, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming 2025 season with electrifying new destinations like Bangkok, Toronto, and Paris on our itinerary! It’s safe to say that this season is shaping up to be just as exhilarating, if not more so, than ever before.

The 2025 Valorant Champions Tour

The focus of the VCT 2025 is on reaching the esteemed final event in Paris, scheduled for October 5, 2025.

However, the road to the top 16 teams who will compete in Paris won’t be an easy one.

Despite the fact that the competition schedule has been expanded, providing teams additional time between events, they’ll still find themselves playing anywhere from 12 to 23 matches this season, which is actually more than last year.

But before we get to the question of who will win in Paris, here’s how the VCT 2025 system works:

To participate in the ultimate esports championship in Paris, teams need to initially demonstrate their skills by competing in regional tournaments that take place throughout the year.

In the VCT’s global leagues labeled Pacific, Americas, EMEA, and China, a total of 12 teams will square off, aiming to secure high positions that grant entry into Masters tournaments, accumulate Championship Points (CP), and eventually qualify for the final showdown.

In order to qualify for global competitions, professional teams need to demonstrate their skills and prowess in local or national leagues that correspond to their regions initially.

But there are also other ways to get to Paris.

Apart from the international leagues, there are also the “Kickoff Tournaments” and the “Masters Series.” Notably, the Kickoffs are a sub-category within the international leagues.

This way, the text maintains its original meaning while being more easily understood by readers.

As a dedicated gamer, here’s how I would put it:

“From the world of competitive gaming, let me share some exciting dates with you. First up, I’ll be heading to Bangkok from February 20 to March 2 for the VCT Masters tournament. Then, I’m looking forward to Toronto from June 7 to June 22 for another Masters event. Last but not least, I can hardly wait for the Champions Paris tournament that runs from September 12 to October 5.

Kickoff Tournaments

Kickoff tournaments mark the start of the season, offering teams an early opportunity to accumulate points. The highest-ranking teams from different regions will battle it out for significant Championship Points, which could potentially determine their eligibility for the finale.

Masters Tournaments

These significant tournaments, known as The Masters, take place consistently across the season. They offer top-tier squads a platform for competition and provide chances to earn substantial CP (Competition Points) and lucrative prizes.

Based on where they finish in the Masters competition, teams could earn substantial points, which frequently determines their eligibility for the Champions event in Paris.

All Events and Dates

  • Kickoffs: January 11 – February 9 across all VCT regions (Americas, Pacific, EMEA, CN) / The top 2 from each region qualify for Masters Bangkok
  • Masters Bangkok: February 20 – March 2 / Qualification through regional leagues or Kickoff tournaments / 12 teams / No direct qualification for Champions through victory, but offers the highest Championship Points and prize money
  • Internationale Liga, Stage 1: April 17 – May 16 across all VCT regions (Americas, Pacific, EMEA, CN) / Qualification through regional leagues / Top 3 from each league qualify for Masters Toronto
  • Masters Toronto: June 7 – June 22 / Qualification through international league / Opportunity for high CP and prize money
  • Internationale Liga, Stage 2: August 9 – August 31 / Last chance to qualify for the Champions Finals in Paris / The top 2 from each league and the 2 teams with the most CP (not already qualified) will secure spots in the coveted top 16 for Paris
  • Champions: September 12 – October 5 / The final battle for the ultimate Valorant esports world title

Tournaments Beyond The Champion Title

If you ever feel overwhelmed by the busy esports schedule, here are three more thrilling tournament formats that might catch your interest: Challengers, Ascension, and Game Changers.

The Challengers competition functions as a stepping stone for emerging teams that have yet to secure a spot in the major leagues. The top-performing teams in the Challengers can potentially gain an opportunity to qualify for more advanced tournaments or regional leagues.

The term Ascension refers to a significant competition, where the leading squads from qualifying tournaments contend for a chance to join the regional leagues.

I’m absolutely thrilled about VCT 2025! Even if I’m ill and confined to bed, just thinking about watching my beloved Valorant esports brings a smile to my face.

Ultimately, Game Changers offers an arena where women and non-binary individuals can vie for success and leave indelible impressions within the professional Valorant community.

2025 looks set to be a thrilling year for the VCT 2025, with its calendar brimming with events, a carefully designed tournament structure, and ample chances for teams to make their mark in the Valorant esports world.
