It’s been confirmed that production for the highly anticipated movie adaptation of Andy Weir’s 2021 sci-fi novel “Project Hail Mary,” starring Oscar nominee Drew Goddard and Ryan Gosling, has come to an end under Amazon MGM Studios. The film is set to hit theaters on March 20, 2026.
In a recent interview, Goddard shared that the upcoming movie shares a comparable mood with Ridley Scott’s film The Martian, starring Matt Damon, which was based on Weir’s 2011 novel. It is worth mentioning that Gosling has previously played an astronaut in the 2018 biopic First Man.

In addition to Ryan Gosling, the cast of Project Hail Mary includes Academy Award nominee Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall, The Zone of Interest), Milana Vayntrub (This Is Us, Werewolves Within), Bastian Antonio Fuentes (Jurassic World Dominion), Isla McRae (The Christmas Quest), and James Wright (How to Train A Princess). The film is directed by the Oscar-winning team of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, with a screenplay penned by Goddard. It is being produced by Lord, Miller, Gosling, Weir, Amy Pascal, among others.
The narrative focuses on Ryland Grace, a formerly-astronaut-now-schoolteacher who regains consciousness on a space station, unable to recall his identity or mission. Gradually, fragments of his memory resurface, revealing that he was dispatched to the Tau Ceti solar system, 12 light-years distant from Earth, with the objective of preventing a cosmic incident that had initiated an early Ice Age on our planet.
