Anita Bryant passes away at 84, claims report
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anita Bryant on December 16, 2024. She was surrounded by loved ones when she died. Her obituary also highlighted her strong Christian beliefs and the Church family who will continue her work. Bryant leaves behind four children, two stepdaughters, and seven grandchildren to honor her memory.
Born on March 25, 1940, in Barnsdall, Oklahoma, Bryant nurtured her Christian faith from an early age and carried it with her throughout her life. Her love for music and art ignited a desire to work in show business, and at just 12 years old, she landed a television show.
Bryant delved into various artistic pursuits beyond singing. In 1958, she even won the title of Miss Oklahoma in a beauty pageant. A decade later, she also served as a representative for the Florida Citrus Commission, maintaining this role until 1980. Her catchy phrase, “A day without orange juice is like a day without sunshine,” became a well-known jingle in many homes.
Furthermore, in 1977, she initiated the well-known “Save Our Children” crusade in Miami, Florida. This movement aimed to revise a local law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.
In a 1978 interview with Playboy, Bryant openly shared her reasons for initiating the movement. She stated, “I became involved because they were requesting unique benefits that contravened Florida state law and, moreover, God’s laws. As a child, we never even discussed or inquired about homosexuality. We knew it was wrong, but it was something we couldn’t fully comprehend.
The performer also mentioned, “To be honest, it was so disgusting that I couldn’t even consider it, and there were more important thoughts on my mind. But when I eventually understood all the consequences, it was a profound realization for me.
Reports indicate that Bryant’s controversial views against the LGBTQ+ community sparked anger amongst advocates for gay rights, leading them to boycott Florida orange juice. Additionally, it was reported that the singer allegedly faced a financial setback of half a million dollars in concert cancellations due to public backlash.
