In the ongoing dispute between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, Baldoni’s legal team has recently asserted that the character Nicepool from Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine series was inspired by Baldoni himself.
What are Baldoni’s lawyers saying?
Appearing on The Megyn Kelly Show, I, Ian Baldoni, found myself in a unique situation where my attorney, Bryan Freedman, alleged that Ryan Reynolds, through the character of Nicepool, had subtly taken a dig at me. In the movie, Nicepool is presented as a deceptively nice guy, masking his morally ambiguous nature similar to Deadpool.
Freedman stated on The Megyn Kelly Show that if someone’s wife experiences sexual harassment, it’s inappropriate to mock Justin Baldoni about it. He emphasized that the situation is connected to Justin and anyone who watched the ‘hair bun’ incident should understand that making fun of sexual harassment is not acceptable because it’s a serious matter.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but wonder if Ryan Reynolds was subtly poking fun at Justin Baldoni in his latest Deadpool character. The attorney for Baldoni, Bryan Freedman, stated that the “Nicepool” character indeed seems to be connected to Justin. If someone has experienced serious sexual harassment, it’s not appropriate to joke about it – it’s a significant matter. So, was this a playful jab or something more? Only time will tell!

Right before the new year, Baldoni took legal action against Lively, accusing Lively’s PR team of spreading an unproven and self-beneficial story that was detrimental to Baldoni. They are said to have used selective and manipulated communications, disregarding important context, to portray him negatively. The lawsuit asks for a minimum of $250 million, with claims of fraud, breach of contract, and libel against Lively.
As a devoted fan, I’d rephrase that statement as follows: “I, along with many fans, find it disheartening to witness the New York Times seemingly bending to the demands of Blake Lively and her influential circle in what appears to be a malicious smear campaign. This situation seems to overlook journalistic integrity and ethical standards that were once synonymous with The New York Times. Allegedly, they’ve used manipulated texts and omitted contradictory ones, seemingly tailoring their report to fit a predetermined PR narrative, as stated by Bryan Freedman, the legal representative for Baldoni and his PR team.
Lively’s complaint alleges that Baldoni created a hostile work environment
The legal action arises from a formal grievance lodged by Blake Lively against Baldoni last month. In this complaint, she alleges that the working conditions during the filming of It Ends With Us became so intolerable that an urgent meeting was convened to address her allegations of a hostile work environment. During the gathering, Lively requested Baldoni to cease displaying nude videos or images of women, to stop discussing his pornography addiction with her, to refrain from talking about sexual experiences in her presence, and also to stop making comments about her weight.
The complaint states that Wayfarer Studios and the cast had agreed to emphasize the strong and resilient aspects of Lively’s character rather than labeling the movie as a depiction of domestic violence during its promotion. However, Lively alleges that Baldoni broke this agreement by discussing the film’s grave themes in interviews instead.
According to Lively, Baldoni and his public relations manager, Melissa Nathan, reportedly brainstormed strategies for launching a social media smear campaign to damage her reputation. The documents submitted by Lively contain 22 pages of messages between Baldoni’s PR representative and Nathan, where they express a desire to ‘bury’ Lively online.
