Did you know that not Suriya but Ajith Kumar was supposed to be the lead of THIS iconic Tamil thriller?

Ajith Kumar is more than just a timeless star in Kollywood. His movies are as enduring as classics and continue to resonate with countless fans. Despite receiving high praise for his exceptional work, it might surprise you to learn that he was the original pick for the lead role in the iconic Tamil thriller Ghajini. That’s correct!

Apart from being the preferred actor, AR Murugadoss initially envisioned producing both the Tamil and Hindi adaptations of the movie, with him in the starring role. In truth, some initial promotional photos featuring Asin as the co-star were even filmed.

Unfortunately, things didn’t turn out well for the project. There was a disagreement between Ajith and the movie makers, which resulted in his role not coming to fruition in that excellent film.

Film director AR Murugadoss expressed earlier that he had long planned to collaborate with actor Ajith on a project similar to Ghajini, as his first film directing effort also featured the same star.

To clarify, it was actually Ajith who proposed the idea of depicting the main character with a well-defined physique, specifically six-pack abs. Interestingly, this physical attribute was also emphasized in the portrayals of Suriya and Aamir during filming.

Nevertheless, the project wasn’t abandoned entirely; instead, it was revived. Eventually, the filmmaker enlisted Suriya Sivakumar to star in the Tamil version of the film in 2005.

Or simply: Despite being temporarily halted, the project was resumed with Suriya Sivakumar joining the cast for the Tamil version in 2005.

In 2008, Aamir Khan was selected as the main actor for the Hindi remake, while Asin Thottumkal continued to play the female lead in both the original and the re-make.

Regardless if you agree or disagree, while Ajith didn’t take on the iconic role in the action thriller, both Suriya and Aamir gave impressive performances that packed a punch in both versions of the movie.
