Holes Television Show Receives Disney+ Pilot Order, Logline Revealed

A television show based on Louis Sachar’s Holes has been given a pilot order at Disney+.

1998 marked the publication of Louis Sachar’s novel “Holes,” which follows the tale of a young boy named Stanley Yelnats. After being unjustly accused and sentenced for stealing a renowned baseball player’s shoes, Stanley finds himself at a detention camp. To his surprise, instead of traditional punishment methods, the camp’s warden requires all inmates to dig holes in the desert every day.

2003 saw the adaptation of Holes into a movie by Disney, with Andrew Davis serving as director. In this film, Shia LaBeouf portrayed Stanley, while Khleo Thomas took on the role of Hector “Zero” Zeroni, Sigourney Weaver played Warden Walker, Jon Voight was Mr. Sir, Tim Blake Nelson brought Dr. Steve Pendanski to life, and Brenden Jefferson starred as Rex “X-Ray” Washburn.

According to recent updates, Liz Phang has been appointed as both showrunner and executive producer for the upcoming Holes pilot. Alina Mankin holds the positions of writer and executive producer. Drew Goddard, Sarah Esberg, and Mike Medavoy are also serving as executive producers. Walden Media is producing the pilot, with Andrea Massaro as co-executive producer.

In this fresh take on Louis Sachar’s cherished 1998 novel, a young girl finds herself at a harsh detention center, overseen by a cruel warden who compels the inmates to excavate pits for an enigmatic reason.

In his statement, Goddard mentioned that his mother has been a teacher throughout her life, making her an unofficial book scout for Goddard Textiles. She often knows what children are interested in before others do. The first book she recommended to him was ‘Holes’, back in the late 90s, and she believed it would become a sensation. It’s fulfilling to see this project come full circle for Mrs. Goddard and her sixth-grade class.
