NetEase’s Marvel Rivals is on the verge of launching its initial post-release season, which goes by the name Eternal Night. This first season marks the beginning of regular updates for the game and brings a vast array of content, including the complete roster of the Fantastic Four.
Although the post-release update promises a lot of excitement, NetEase wants to clarify that subsequent seasons may not surpass the grandeur of the first one. While famous characters and locations will be introduced along with engaging events, it’s important to note that the magnitude of Season 1 won’t be replicated in Season 2.
Later Marvel Rivals seasons will be smaller
In a recently released developer’s video, which included significant adjustments (nerfs) for the upcoming season, it was disclosed that Marvel Rivals Season 1 – Eternal Night boasts “twice as much playable content as a typical season.
Marvel Rivals Season 1 is jam-packed with rewards, boasting four playable characters, three diverse maps, fresh game modes, and plenty more features. Accompanying a brand-new battle pass offering additional character skins to unlock, this inaugural season truly exudes the excitement of the game’s triumphant debut.
NetEase states that the main objective for such a substantial season update is primarily to facilitate the simultaneous debut of the Fantastic Four. Rather than introducing them one by one, the developers aimed to ensure that all four characters could interact harmoniously in the game.
During our brainstorming meetings, we all strongly felt that incorporating them into Marvel Rivals during one large season was the best approach, as stated by our creative director Guangguang. This combined season offers twice the usual amount of playable content and will boost our total number of playable characters to 37.
In simpler terms, starting from the second season onwards, we can expect only two playable characters per season compared to the four that were introduced during Season 1 – Eternal Night. However, we’re hopeful that future seasons will continue to be just as thrilling with the introduction of new characters in Marvel Rivals.
