Mohanlal calls out people who criticized his debut directorial Barroz without giving it a chance; says ‘Everyone who watched…’

On Christmas Day, 2024, Mohanlal made his directorial debut with the film Barroz, a magical adventure for kids. Featuring him as the lead actor, this movie received varied responses from critics, leading Mohanlal to share his thoughts in response.

During a chat with The Hollywood Reporter India, Mohanlal voiced his disapproval towards those who critiqued the film without watching it first. He stated, “After spending four decades in cinema, I see ‘Barroz’ as my gift to society. Those who watched the movie found it enjoyable, but some people who haven’t even seen it yet are still criticizing it.

To put it simply, Mohanlal stressed the significance of considering specific elements of a film before passing judgment on it. He made it clear that he has never suggested comparing Barroz to Hollywood films or the sophisticated technology employed within them.

In simpler terms, the actor believed that the film was primarily an experimental project by him and an exceptionally gifted crew. Moving on to Barroz, the story revolves around a 400-year-old guardian spirit who protects a valuable treasure. This tale unfolds amidst Portuguese folklore, delving into the spirit’s unwavering loyalty towards his king and his fulfillment of duties.

Apart from Mohanlal playing the leading character, the film also stars Maya Rao West, Cesar Lorente Raton, Ignacio Mateos, Kallirroi Tziafeta, Nerea Camacho, and several others in significant roles.

In terms of his professional life, Mohanlal is preparing to appear in the film titled “Thudarum.” This movie is directed by Tharun Moorthy and is scheduled to hit theaters on January 30, 2025. Some of the actors involved in this project include Shobana, Farhaan Faasil, Maniyanpilla Raju, Binu Pappu, Nandu, and Irshad Ali.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that Mohanlal will be gracing the big screen on March 27, 2025, in the highly anticipated sequel L2: Empuraan, which is helmed by director Prithviraj Sukumaran.
