Corvin Castle in Hunedoara, Romania

Often referred to as Hunyadi or Hunedoara Castle, this magnificent structure is not only one of the Seven Wonders of Romania but also ranks among Europe’s largest castles. Known as Corvin Castle, it played a significant role in serving as the exterior backdrop for Count Orlok’s castle in various film productions.

In the heart of the 14th century, this castle functioned as both fortress and home to Iancu de Hunedoara. It features a Knights’ Hall, a Council Room, a chapel, a drawbridge, inner courtyards, and no less than fifty rooms adorned with medieval decor and artwork.

Pernstejn Castle, Czech Republic

The Pernstejn Castle lies within the South Moravian area of the Czech Republic and was established between 1270 and 1285 by the noble family known as the Medlovs, who later took on the surname Pernstejn.

The castle was often called “The Marble Castle” because its doorways and windows were framed with stones that looked like marble.

In 1922’s Nosferatu, as well as Count Orlok’s castle in the film, scenes featuring interior courtyards were filmed at this location.

Barrandov Studios, Prague

The famous Barrandov Studios in Prague were transformed into the make-believe German town of Wisborg, specifically for the production of Nosferatu. To achieve an authentic look, the filmmakers designed sets based on actual locations in Germany and Romania.

Barrandov Studios also has housed productions like Casino Royale and The Bourne Identity.

Invalidona Complex, Prague

Constructed by Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer during the years 1731-37, this Baroque structure is also recognized as Invalides or House of the Disabled. Originally built as a shelter for war veterans who were wounded, it later transformed into a museum and military archive.

Zamek Rozmital pod Tremsinem, Czech Republic

In the 13th century, a castle called Rozmital pod Tremsinem was constructed using Gothic design, but it was later reconstructed in the 16th century with a Renaissance aesthetic under the orders of Florian Gryspek.
