In his Los Angeles residence, an assistant found Baena’s body, and authorities announced his death on a Friday. Later, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that he had taken his own life. This sad news has elicited an outpouring of sympathy from admirers and the film community.

Baena has earned fame for helming and jointly scripting multiple movies like Life After Beth (2014), Joshy (2016), The Little Hours (2017), and Spin Me Round (2022).
