Shōgun Season 2 Gets Exciting Script Update Post Golden Globe Wins

Following its triumph at the awards ceremonies, there’s a strong possibility that FX/Hulu’s Shōgun will return for Season 2, despite initially being marketed as a limited series. This historical drama first graced our screens in February 2024, promptly earning acclaim from both the public and critics. Since then, many viewers have been eager to know if another season would be produced for this popular series. Now, it appears that the creators of Shōgun have hinted at potential additional episodes.

Shōgun Season 2 creators give key script update

At the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, the minds behind Shōgun, shared some exciting news with fans about Season 2. Following their victory, they revealed that the writing process for Shōgun Season 2 is already underway.

Regarding the upcoming second season of Shōgun, Kondo shared that “we’re still working hard and haven’t given up hope.” However, she also expressed uncertainty, mentioning that more details might not be immediately available. Marks from ComicBook.com provided a bit more information, stating that they are approximately six weeks away from wrapping up the writer’s room for the second season.

Initially intended as a standalone season, Shōgun’s exceptional critical and audience appreciation almost guarantees a second season. Yet, the specific storyline for this potential sequel remains unclear. The first episode covered every detail from James Clavell’s 1975 novel of the same name, leaving no aspect unexplored.

Justin Marks has shared some insights into potential storylines for Shōgun Season 2. In a previous conversation with Variety, he mentioned discussing historical details with one of their advisors, saying, “Let’s learn a bit more about William Adams here and Tokugawa Ieyasu there, and tell us about new characters and new events.”

Although there have been optimistic reports concerning Season 2, it hasn’t been formally confirmed that the series will return as of now.
