Who Is Tak Rennod in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew? History & Lightsaber Explained

As a seasoned Star Wars gamer with memories of the original trilogy etched deep into my core, I must say that Tak Rennod, the notorious pirate from “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew,” has truly captured my imagination. The lore surrounding his character is rich and intriguing, making him a fascinating addition to the Star Wars universe.

In this latest episode, we learned of his relentless pursuit for At Attin, the lost planet of eternal treasure, which adds an extra layer of mystery to his already enigmatic persona. The fact that almost every pirate in the galaxy knows his name speaks volumes about his legendary status.

The revelation that At Attin served as the Old Republic’s mint is a fascinating tidbit that adds depth to the Star Wars lore, and it’s exciting to think about what other secrets this planet might hold. Tak Rennod’s tragic end at the hands of his own crew is a classic tale of ambition and betrayal, but I can’t help but wonder if we’ll ever truly know the whole story behind the Onyx Cinder’s demise.

Now, about that lightsaber… It was Wim who stumbled upon it in Rennod’s lair, not Jod as some might think! But fear not, for our young hero Jod will get his hands on it eventually. I just hope he doesn’t repeat Wim’s mistake of holding it upside down like a first-time dad trying to change a diaper! May the Force be with him, indeed!

In Episode 6 of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, titled “Zero Friends Again,” now streaming on Disney+, fans are left with many curiosities following its viewing. As with all Star Wars content, Skeleton Crew adds to the rich tapestry of its lore. Early episodes introduce Tak Rennod, a once-captain of the Onyx Cinder who’s now notorious as a pirate. By the time the series is set, he’s become a mysterious and legendary figure, with almost every pirate in the galaxy seeming to recognize his name.

Here is what we have learned about Tak Rennod in Star Wars.

Captain Tak Rennod’s Star Wars history before Skeleton Crew explained

Captain Tak Rennod, a character only featured in Skeleton Crew, has no other appearances in Star Wars canon or legends. However, the series creatively expands upon his background. Rennod was a ruthless pirate who gained infamy for plundering starships. He was relentlessly seeking the whereabouts of At Attin, the mythical planet that is home to the young heroes in Skeleton Crew. Known as one of the precious gems of the Old Republic, At Attin was skillfully concealed from the galaxy. While other gem planets met their demise, At Attin remained inhabited, civilized, and deceptively tranquil. Over time, it earned the title “the lost planet of unending riches.” In the show, it is disclosed that the planet functioned as the Old Republic’s mint.

Eventually, Rennod’s quest to reach At Attin brought him to the Fallen Sanctum on the planet At Achrann, another gem-like world. Once he obtained the coordinates for At Attin, he eliminated the crew members who traveled with him there and ordered his droid SM-33 to obliterate the inscriptions. In a tragic twist of events, it appears that Rennod met his demise when his crew and mistress turned against him. However, just before his own death, he took revenge on those who had betrayed him by causing the Onyx Cinder to crash onto At Attin.

Did Jod Na Nawood find Tak Rennod’s lightsaber in Skeleton Crew Episode 5?

In the Skeleton Crew Episode 5, it was actually Wim who discovered Tak Rennod’s lightsaber, not Jod. However, Jod ended up picking it up at a later point in time.

The team found themselves in Rennod’s hideout beneath Skull Ridge Mountain on Lanupa when Wim stumbled upon it. After Jod confronted Fern for the captaincy of the Onyx Cinder, Wim attempted to intimidate the pirate with a Jedi weapon. Unfortunately, he was unaware that he had it flipped backward. Upon activating it by accident and feeling a sudden fright, he reflexively discarded it. At the end of the episode, Jod snatched the lightsaber using the Force.
