Squid Game Season 2: Who Is Thanos & What Happens to Him?

As a seasoned gamer and avid fan of both the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and Squid Game, I was absolutely thrilled to see the introduction of Thanos in Season 2 of Squid Game. Having grown up with BigBang’s music and being familiar with Choi Seung-hyun aka T.O.P’s illustrious career, it was a delight to see him bring this enigmatic character to life on the screen.

Thanos, or rather Choi Su-bong, is undeniably one of the most intriguing new additions to the Squid Game universe. His backstory of bankruptcy and addiction is heart-wrenching, yet his ruthless nature and unwavering loyalty to the games make him a formidable opponent. The nods to the MCU’s Thanos only served to heighten my excitement as a fan of both franchises.

However, the fate of Thanos in Squid Game Season 2 was undeniably tragic. His untimely demise at the hands of Hyun Ju was a stark reminder that even the most powerful characters can meet their end in the brutal world of the games. But, as they say, every hero needs a good villain, and Thanos certainly fit the bill.

In a lighter note, I couldn’t help but chuckle at the irony of a character named Thanos meeting his end by being choked, much like the MCU’s Thanos was defeated by being snapped out of existence. It seems that even in Squid Game, no one can truly escape the clutches of the Mad Titan!

The anticipation for Squid Game‘s second season has been high since its debut. In this installment, we follow Gi-hun as he endeavors to stop the brutal games following his victory in the last season. One of the most intriguing elements of the captivating plot is the introduction of a fresh character named Thanos. So, who exactly is Thanos in Squid Game Season 2 and does he meet his end?

Here is everything you need to know about this new addition to the South Korean dystopian series.

Who is Thanos in Squid Game Season 2?

Choi Su-bong aka Thanos is a famous rapper in Squid Game Season 2.

In Squid Game Season 2, the character Seung-Hyun, known as Thanos, is Player 230. Fans wondered if this character shares traits with or has ties to the infamous villain named Thanos from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, there was no confirmed link between them. The series does reference a fearsome titan called Thanos instead.

In the given episode, Su-bong declares, “I am Thanos the Magnificent, here to safeguard you.” Later, another character queries if he possesses “all the Infinity Gems,” to which he responds affirmatively by displaying his fingernails in a pattern resembling the gems. However, it’s revealed that Thanos was once financially ruined, having lost all his wealth in a deceitful Dalmatian Bitcoin scheme.

He’s hooked on psychedelics as a means of escaping the harsh realities of his life, particularly the violent Red Light Green Light game he’s involved in, alongside Nam-gyu, Se-mi, and Min-su. Thanos aims to confront Gi-hun and anyone else who seeks to put an end to these deadly games during Season 2.

In a surprising turn of events, the Marvel character Thanos is played by Choi Seung-hyun, who was previously a popular K-Pop artist known as T.O.P. He initially made his mark in South Korea’s music scene as an underground rapper, but gained widespread recognition after he became part of the renowned band BigBang. Some of his most famous songs with the group were Lies, Big Boy, and Last Farewell. However, T.O.P left the band in 2023.

Does Thanos die in Squid Game Season 2?

Unfortunately, Thanos does die in the second season of Squid Game.

In one episode, Thanos and Nam Gyu grow angry at Hyun Ju for switching allegiance before they could settle their debts. This anger triggers a violent confrontation, where Thanos attempts to quell the rebels and even tries to strangle Hyun Ju. However, things take a dramatic turn when Hyun Ju stabs Thanos in the neck, leading to his eventual demise from the wound.
