On March 23, 2023, Kwon’s journey concluded unexpectedly at Podgorica Airport in Montenegro, as both he and his associate, Han Cheng Jun, were taken into custody by the authorities.

The duo tried to take a plane to Dubai with fake passports. After being apprehended, Kwon received a four-month jail sentence for producing false passports, thereby hindering the process of his extradition hearings.
