As a die-hard fan of Suriya with over two decades of his cinematic journey under my belt, I am beyond ecstatic about his upcoming film, Retro! The collaboration between Suriya and Karthik Subbaraj is a match made in Tamil cinema heaven. The title announcement video alone left me on the edge of my seat, eagerly anticipating what’s to come.
After taking a break following his movie “Kanguva,” actor Suriya is gearing up for another stint on the big screen. This time, he’s teaming up with director Karthik Subbaraj for an intriguing production that’s been tentatively named “Retro.” The title and a first glimpse have been revealed by the producers, sparking excitement among fans.
As an over-the-moon fan, I couldn’t contain my excitement when Karthik Subbaraj announced the title of Suriya44 on what used to be Twitter – it’s now called Retro! The visionary filmmaker also treated us to a tantalizing first look at the movie. In it, Suriya can be seen in an entirely fresh avatar, taking on the challenging role of a man grappling with intense temper problems. I simply can’t wait to see this masterpiece unfold!
Yet, he’s prepared to sacrifice everything, solely for being with the woman he adores, portrayed by Pooja Hegde.

As I shared the link to my latest cinematic creation on social media, I couldn’t help but echo the sentiments it conveys. Love, laughter, and war—these powerful emotions pulse through every frame of this movie, making it an unforgettable journey for viewers.
I can’t help but be captivated by that tantalizing sneak peek that leaves us yearning for more answers! But what truly grabs my attention isn’t just the mystery it presents; it’s the vintage charm exuded by Suriya and Pooja Hegde themselves. They’ve got a certain retro vibe going on, and I can’t get enough of it!
In contrast, while the Kanguva star sported an antique-style mustache and a “lamb chop” hairstyle, Pooja opted for fuller, rounded eyebrows and a more subtle makeup approach.
For those not familiar, the Tamil language romantic action movie is being co-produced by Suriya himself, together with his wife Jyotika. This project was initially announced in March 2023, and it’s only now that the official title of the film has been revealed.
The cast, aside from Suriya and Pooja Hegde, features Jayaram, Joju George, Prakash Raj, Nassar, Prem Kumar, and more. It’s rumored that Shriya Saran might join the crew for a special appearance in one of the film’s songs.
According to various sources, it seems that the movie “Retro” is believed to take place in the 1980s and could be categorized as part gangster action drama. However, director Karthik Subbaraj himself has confirmed that the film is primarily a romantic movie, featuring intense dramatic elements.
As a die-hard admirer, I’m thrilled to bits! On the professional side of things, our beloved star, Suriya, has yet another exciting venture lined up – Suriya 45! This time around, the brilliant RJ Balaji will be at the helm. Can’t wait to see what magic they’ll weave on the big screen!
