As a long-time admirer of Mohanlal and the Malayalam film industry, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and pride reading about the upcoming third installment of Drishyam. This series has not only solidified Mohanlal’s position as a legendary actor but also put Mollywood on the map for audiences across the country.
In 2013, Mohanlal created an enigmatic reputation for himself and the entire Malayalam film industry through the movie “Drishyam.” Directed by Jeethu Joseph, this film received immense love, resulting in a sequel and a Bollywood remake. Now, the cherished Mollywood actor has announced thrilling news about the return of Drishyam with a third installment.
During an interview promoting the movie “Barroz,” Mohanlal shared insights on how the Malayalam film industry gained nationwide acclaim following the success of the film “Drishyam.
The actor reminisced about the fact that it required a significant amount of time to release the sequel of the series, as the nation had been affected by the pandemic.
Even though the sequel arrived years after the initial release, he pointed out that the film significantly boosted his visibility among viewers, who continued to acknowledge him long afterward.
Speaking about the potential for another Drishyam movie, Mohanlal shared, “For the sequel, we waited and then six years later, when we were ready to proceed, COVID-19 happened. Yet, this unexpected pandemic and Drishyam had a significant impact – it drew global attention to Malayalam cinema. Now, as I was shooting in Gujarat, many locals recognized me, saying ‘Mohanlal!’ after watching Drishyam 2. This sparked an interest in more Malayalam films among them. Currently, we are working on bringing you Drishyam 3.
If you’re not familiar with it, the movie Drishyam initially hit screens in 2013. It tells the tale of Georgekutty and his family, who face scrutiny after the police inspector general’s son disappears, placing them under suspicion.
In addition to Mohanlal, the cast also included Meena, Anasiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Asha Sharath, Siddique, Neeraj Madhav, and several other actors.
Under the banner of Mohanlal’s production house, Aashirvad Cinemas, the movie garnered overwhelmingly favorable feedback from both audiences and critics alike.
The movie initially had modest earnings at the box office, but it eventually brought in a substantial amount of money. Interestingly, it was also re-made in Hindi using the same title, with Ajay Devgn taking on the leading role.
