As a long-time fan and follower of Grey’s Anatomy, I can’t help but feel a twinge of excitement at the prospect of Martin Henderson reprising his role as Dr. Nathan Riggs. Having watched the series since its inception, I have grown fond of the characters and their intertwining stories, and Riggs was no exception. His arrival in Season 11 breathed fresh air into the show, providing a much-needed boost to Meredith’s storyline after the departure of Derek Shepherd.
Martin Henderson recently expressed his thoughts about potentially reprising his role as Dr. Nathan Riggs on the popular medical drama, “Grey’s Anatomy.” Known for his captivating performances, Henderson initially joined the series in 2015 and quickly gained a loyal fan following. After two seasons, he parted ways with the show in Season 14, but based on recent statements, it seems that the possibility of him returning to “Grey’s Anatomy” is still up for discussion at this time.
Martin Henderson says he’ll return to Grey’s Anatomy if there’s a ‘clear plan’
In a recent chat, the 50-year-old actor mentioned that he might reappear on the ongoing TV show, as long as the creators find an appropriate storyline for his character.
In a conversation with Deadline, Martin Henderson hinted at the possibility of reprising his role on Grey’s Anatomy. He explained, “I haven’t given it much consideration because I’ve been so engrossed and occupied with Virgin River and other projects, as well as personal matters.” Henderson further stated, “I would remain open to the idea, provided it aligns with my current life situation and career plans.
In a recent interview, the actor from Virgin River made clear that he would come back to the show only if his character had a significant role or purpose, which didn’t seem to be the case in his first appearance. Essentially, Nathan Riggs is primarily introduced as an alternative love interest for Meredith Grey, portrayed by Ellen Pompeo, following the unexpected exit of Patrick Dempsey’s character, Derek.
Furthermore, Martin Henderson’s last scene on Grey’s Anatomy depicts his character departing with Abigail Spencer’s Megan Hunt and their son. However, this harmonious ending was short-lived as Megan reveals in Season 18 that the couple had parted ways.
According to the actor who plays Henderson’s character, his return could be possible only if there’s a strong reason for it within the storyline. Meanwhile, the showrunner Meg Marinis hinted that past characters might make a comeback, raising excitement among fans. However, an official confirmation about Dr. Nathan Riggs’ return has not been announced by the creators yet.
