As a die-hard South cinema enthusiast who has lived and breathed these cinematic marvels for the past three decades, let me shed some light on the sequels of 2024 that left an indelible mark on my heart.

2024 saw numerous sequels of Southern films making their way onto the silver screen. Ranging from Pushpa 2 featuring Allu Arjun to Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2, moviegoers enjoyed a variety of treats all year long.

2024 saw the debut of the film Yatra 2 featuring Mammootty and Jiiva on February 8. This production, helmed by Mahi V Raghav, received a blend of positive and negative responses from critics and grossed approximately Rs 7.25 crore at box offices globally.

This action-packed thriller featured Ram Pothineni and Sanjay Dutt in leading roles. While it was directed by Puri Jagannadh, it garnered mixed responses from viewers regarding its quality.

As these films from the South continued to captivate audiences, the final month brought about the debut of Pushpa 2: The Rule on December 5. This highly-anticipated movie, helmed by Sukumar, featured Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles, causing a sensation in cinemas.

In simple terms, the movie “Pushpa 2” was met with enthusiastic reactions upon release and broke numerous box office records in a matter of hours. Within merely two weeks since its premiere, it amassed over Rs 1,500 crore globally. Notably, before this film, only the movie “Baahubali,” starring Prabhas, had achieved such feats at the box office. Now, “Pushpa 2” stands as the highest-grossing Indian film ever made.
