As a lifelong fan of the Mass Effect franchise, I can’t help but feel a rollercoaster of emotions when it comes to Mass Effect 5. The anticipation is palpable, the excitement is electrifying, and the fear of another disappointment is always lurking in the corner of my mind.
Information about the project has been closely guarded, but here’s what we know so far: The Mass Effect series will carry on its journey. Following the lukewarm reception of Andromeda in 2017, developers at BioWare are readying for a comeback.
The official announcement for what is considered as Mass Effect 5 (following Andromeda being referred to as Mass Effect 4) was made back in the year 2020. Since then, enthusiasts have had ample time to ponder and speculate. In light of this, let’s explore what we’ve learned up until now.
Mass Effect 5 – Is there a release date yet?
To start off, let me clarify the crucial matter first: Are we aware of a release date for Mass Effect 5? I’d like to keep it brief and clear: currently, no, we do not. In fact, we don’t even have a specified release period yet, so predicting when Mass Effect 5 will be available for purchase is still up in the air at this moment. However, following the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, BioWare has reportedly refocused their efforts entirely on Mass Effect.
Speaking of – the latest Dragon Age didn’t quite meet fans’ expectations…
Disappointed with Dragon Age: The Veilguard and fearful what it means for Mass Effect 5?
In contrast to expectations, BioWare’s recent major title, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, has not been warmly embraced, even by dedicated franchise enthusiasts. Many players, anticipating this game for a decade, were disillusioned with the final product and expressed concern that Mass Effect might suffer the same fate of underwhelming reception.
That’s when Michael Gamble, project director on Mass Effect 5, spoke up to ease fans’ worries:
There’s been an influx of questions about Mass Effect as Veilguard reviews surface and Halloween approaches. Both are from the same studio, but Mass Effect is unique in its own right. Crafting a Science Fiction RPG requires a distinct approach compared to other genres or intellectual properties, and it demands a particular kind of affection.

Concerning the tonality of questions, Mass Effect will preserve the mature vibe from the initial Trilogy. For the moment, that’s all I have to share on the subject.
Hopefully, he keeps his word – nothing left to do but wait and see at this point.
Mass Effect 5 – Check out the teaser trailer
In the year 2020, we were given a sneak peek of the upcoming Mass Effect game, and to put it simply, the fans are thrilled, particularly since they spotted an N7 helmet. You can watch the trailer for yourself by clicking here!
On N7-day of 2023, we got another, way smaller update from BioWare.
Mission accomplished! A big thanks to everyone who assisted in gathering the footage. Now, here’s the entire video compilation for your viewing pleasure! #N7Day

Fans are still somewhat hesitant, given that BioWare has been experiencing tough times for quite some time now, leading to trust issues among players due to several underwhelming releases. These setbacks have left fans worried that the charm of the original BioWare is no more. Indeed, it’s valid to raise this concern: the team behind the new Mass Effect is distinct from the one responsible for the original trilogy.
Mass Effect 5 – Plot, setting and Commander Shepard
At the moment, we can only guess where the story might lead next, but recent developments seem to carry a distinct “Andromeda-like” feel according to us. On the other hand, promotional artwork featuring the Geth hints at involvement of the Milky Way too.
A different aspect that caused a widespread frenzy among fans is: Liara T’Soni has been spotted in the teaser trailer, which suggests that the upcoming game might delve into the original characters once more. It’s possible that we may see the return of Commander Shepard, a character that could certainly cause an online uproar if true.
While these assumptions are unconfirmed at present, remember to approach them cautiously. Without any official updates from BioWare, it’s best to view this information with a degree of skepticism. The disappointment of dashed expectations can be quite painful, so let’s wait for the authentic Mass Effect 5 news instead!
