'I didn’t expect this much negative reviews for Indian 2': Director Shankar opens up on Kamal Haasan-film and Ram Charan's Game Changer

As a long-time admirer of Shankar’s cinematic vision and his ability to weave captivating narratives, I am eagerly awaiting the release of his upcoming movie, Game Changer. Having faced a setback with Indian 2, it is heartening to see the director’s unwavering spirit and determination to deliver better work.

Director Shankar is preparing for the premiere of Game Changer featuring Ram Charan and Kiara Advani in the lead roles. In an interview prior to the film’s scheduled release on January 10, 2025, the director discussed the setbacks experienced by Indian 2 and expressed his optimism about the success of his forthcoming projects.

During an interview with Vikatan, Shankar acknowledged the backlash his film Indian 2 received upon its release. He admitted, “I wasn’t anticipating such harsh criticisms for Indian 2, but I’m taking it in stride. Now, I’m striving to produce superior work with Game Changer and Indian 3.

The director is certain that Game Changer and Indian 2’s follow-up, Indian 3, will be successful. Moreover, he has announced that the third installment of the film will initially premiere exclusively in cinemas, contrary to speculation suggesting a direct release on streaming platforms like OTT.

For those unfamiliar, Indian 2 is the follow-up to the 1996 cult movie Indian, directed by Shankar and starring Haasan. The plot revolves around a former freedom fighter, now an elderly vigilante, who aims to cleanse India of its corruption, ultimately improving life for its citizens.

Regarding his film project with Ram Charan, titled “Game Changer”, Shankar expressed that he’s extremely pleased with how it’s shaping up. He believes this role offers a unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Charan. The movie is expected to be thrilling and engaging, boasting an exceptional script.

In addition, the director made it clear that this movie is purely intended for commercial success. The main storyline revolves around a competition between a character portrayed by Charan, who is an IAS officer, and a politician character played by SJ Suryah. They are in conflict with each other.

The movie titled “Game Changer” features Ram Charan and Kiara Advani as the main characters, with the storyline penned by Karthik Subbaraj. This political action drama revolves around an honest IAS officer determined to dismantle a corrupt political setup.

In addition to the main stars, this upcoming film features SJ Suryah, Srikanth, Anjali, Samuthirakani, Jayaram, and other notable actors in pivotal roles. The producers plan to reveal the fourth single from the movie, titled “Dhop,” on December 22, 2024, at 8 am Indian Standard Time, as the film is slated for release during Sankranti next year.
