As a gamer with a severe milk allergy, I find myself constantly on high alert when it comes to food labels. The recent recall of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips by the FDA has once again reminded me of the challenges we face in our everyday lives.
The recent announcement by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding the recall of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips has generated a lot of interest. As more information about the reason behind the recall became available, concerns about the product’s safety arose. Many people are now wondering why the FDA chose to recall Lay’s classic potato chips.
Here’s a closer look at the situation.
FDA recalls 13 ounces bags of Lay’s classic potato chips
In a recent announcement, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) disclosed that certain batches of Lay’s classic potato chips in 13-ounce bags must be withdrawn from sale. This is due to traces of milk being present in the product, which could pose a health threat for people with milk allergies. The affected products, totaling 6,344 bags, were distributed to both physical stores and online platforms in Oregon and Washington, with sales starting on November 3, 2024.
Frito-Lay has pulled back some 13 oz. bags of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips from the market due to an undeclared milk content. This decision was made after receiving information about this issue through a consumer report. People who have allergies or severe sensitivities to milk should be aware that consuming the recalled product could trigger a potentially dangerous or even life-threatening allergic reaction.
Customers can easily spot the affected products by looking for a “Guaranteed Fresh” date on February 11, 2025, and either manufacturing code “6462307xx” or “6463307xx.” Frito-Lay advises anyone with a milk allergy to promptly discard these chips if they have them. The company underlines that consuming the recalled product may lead to severe allergic reactions, although no such incidents have been reported so far.
The problem was discovered after a consumer asked about it, leading Frito-Lay to take immediate action. They made clear that the recall only affects certain Lay’s products and not any others in terms of their type, flavor, size, or variety packs. To clarify, no allergic reactions related to this issue have been reported so far, and no other Lay’s products are being recalled.
In the food business, it’s fairly normal for products to be withdrawn from the market if they contain allergens. For instance, earlier this year, about 1,600 chocolate bars and around 79,000 pounds of butter were taken off shelves because of mistakes in labeling them.
