Nazriya Nazim’s mystery thriller Sookshmadarshini falls prey to multiple piracy leaks amid buzz of OTT release

As a dedicated follower of the film industry, particularly Malayalam cinema, I have seen my fair share of ups and downs, triumphs and tribulations. But nothing quite compares to the rollercoaster ride that Sookshmadarshini has been for its makers and fans alike. The film’s release was met with high anticipation, and it has undeniably delivered on all fronts, garnering critical acclaim and impressive box office collections worldwide.

The dark comedy mystery thriller “Sookshmadarshini” by Nazriya Nazim and Basil Joseph is making a big splash at the box office, with impressive earnings worldwide. This Malayalam film, titled Mollywood, has been receiving praise for multiple reasons since its release on November 22nd.

Despite rumors circulating about the movie potentially being released on a popular streaming platform, the creators of the film are currently battling hard to prevent unauthorized copying (or piracy).

It turns out that the movie directed by Jithin, which was only recently shown in theaters, has unfortunately been leaked online by unidentified individuals on YouTube. Despite being quickly removed, the film had already garnered a significant number of views before it could be taken down.

It’s quite unexpected that even after implementing countermeasures, the creators of the film continued to encounter piracy issues. On December 18th, the entire high-definition version of the movie was illegally uploaded onto a website.

Regarding a recent issue, filmmaker MC Jithin stated, “First, Sookshmadarshini’s high-definition version was illegally shared on Telegram. Our anti-piracy team managed to take it down. Unfortunately, just a few days ago, we learned that the movie had been uploaded onto YouTube. We acted quickly to have it removed, but by then, it had already garnered 10,000 views. It was unexpected when the film appeared online again yesterday.

Subsequently, the director drew parallels between the journey of the film starring Nazriya Nazim and that of Tovino Thomas’ Ajayante Randam Moshanam this year. Both productions encountered numerous piracy issues shortly after their cinematic debuts.

He expressed his theory that the movie could potentially have been leaked by individuals outside of Kerala or India, as the film is screened domestically under extremely tight security measures designed to prevent piracy.

For those not in the know, this movie is where actress Nazriya makes her comeback to Malayalam films following a break of four years. Remarkably successful, it’s aiming to gather around 550 million Indian Rupees (Rs. 55 crores) at the worldwide box office revenue.

Sookshmadarshini is financed by AVA Productions and funded by Happy Hours Entertainment. The cast includes Basil Joseph, Akhila Bhargavan, Pooja Mohanraj, Deepak Parambol, and several other notable actors in significant roles.
