As a die-hard fan of the Dark Knight and all things Batman, hearing that Matt Reeves is wrapping up the script for The Batman Part II sends chills down my spine! Having grown up watching Christian Bale’s gritty portrayal of the Caped Crusader in the Christopher Nolan trilogy, I must admit that Robert Pattinson’s brooding interpretation has won me over.
Matt Reeves says the script for The Batman Part II is being finished.
In March 2022, Warner Bros. unveiled The Batman, with Matt Reeves at the helm as director. This DC movie features Robert Pattinson portraying the role of the Caped Crusader, and Zoë Kravitz stepping into the character of Selina Kyle/Catwoman.
In an interview with Variety’s Directors on Directors, Reeves mentioned that he’s wrapping up the screenplay for the forthcoming sequel to The Batman, titled The Batman Part II, and plans to start shooting the film next year.
What did Matt Reeves say about The Batman Part II?
He also commented about his script work, “It’s fantastic overall, but I struggle with the pace of completing tasks. To be honest, I don’t feel like I have a choice in this matter. I always think there’s another way to approach it, but I only know how to do it one way. I often compare the process of writing and filmmaking to being in a dark room where everything you need is present, yet there are no lights, and you’re crawling on your hands and knees. It’s when something resonates that I say, ‘Ah, that’s something.’
At present, we’re keeping tight-lips about the specifics of The Batman Part II’s storyline. As of now, it’s a mystery as to whom our brooding hero, the Dark Knight, will go up against as his primary adversary.
According to Jeffrey Wright, the actor portraying Jim Gordon in The Batman Epic Crime Saga, stated in November 2024 that he hasn’t received any information about The Batman Part II yet. He further clarified through ComicBook, “I’m eager to return, but you likely know as much as I do at this point. I haven’t read anything, and I haven’t spoken with Matt for a while. He’s been busy with his projects, and I’ve been occupied with mine. However, I look forward to rejoining the team.
Warner Bros.’ The Batman Sequel is set to hit U.S. cinemas on October 2, 2026.
