As a hardcore fan of The Walking Dead universe with years of dedication under my belt, I can’t help but feel a bit perplexed about the recent developments regarding The Walking Dead: Dead City on Netflix. After the thrilling expansion of AMC content on Netflix back in August 2024, I eagerly awaited the announcement of the arrival of Dead City alongside its fellow series, The Ones Who Live, set to release in January 2025. However, to my surprise, Dead City seems to have gone missing from the lineup.
The television series “The Walking Dead: Dead City” debuted on AMC and AMC+ on June 18, 2023. This was the first direct spinoff that showcased characters from the original series whose tales began there. The plot continued with Maggie (played by Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) a few years after the main series ended. Could it be possible that this spinoff will be available on Netflix in 2025?
In August 2024, AMC extended their partnership to share more original content on Netflix. Already home to shows like The Walking Dead, Mad Men, and Breaking Bad, Netflix added a plethora of new titles to its library on August 19th. Among these were popular Walking Dead spin-offs such as Fear the Walking Dead (all eight seasons) and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (season 1).
The announcement disclosed that both “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live” and “The Walking Dead: Dead City” will be available on Netflix starting January 2025. However, strangely enough, “Dead City” is missing from the list of releases for January 2025 as per the recent announcements made by Netflix.
If you explore the additional links in the tweet or post below, you’ll notice that as of January 13th, “The Ones Who Live” is mentioned, not “Dead City.” On Netflix.com, typing “Walking Dead” into the search bar will bring up “The Ones Who Live,” and you can even set a reminder for its release date. Regrettably, “Dead City” is nowhere to be found. I’ve looked for an explanation from AMC as to why “Dead City” has been removed from Netflix, but I haven’t found one yet. It’s possible that it may become available on the streaming service at a later time.
Here’s a glimpse of upcoming shows on Netflix in January:

Lovers of the “Walking Dead” universe can enjoy several of their preferred TWD shows on Netflix. The lineup includes all eleven seasons of the primary series, season 1 of the spin-off focusing on Daryl Dixon, and all eight seasons of “Fear the Walking Dead.” In January 2025, the limited series, “The Ones Who Live,” will be available as well.
In Spring 2025, the second season of “Dead City” will air on AMC and AMC+, with Daryl Dixon’s third season set to follow later in the year. The sci-fi universe is growing, and rumors are swirling about potential new spinoffs that might be on the horizon.
