Snapdragon Pro Series 2024 in Review: Breaking Records and Redefining Mobile Esports

As a hardcore mobile gamer who’s been around the block more than a few times, I can confidently say that 2024 was the year of the Snapdragon Pro Series! From its humble beginnings as an independent tournament series to becoming a titan in the mobile esports world, this competition has truly revolutionized gaming for everyone.

2024 marks the end of another year brimming with major mobile esports events within the Snapdragon Pro Series. Organized by ESL FACEIT Group (EFG), this global multi-genre mobile esports tournament, which started in 2022 with a vision to usher in a “new era for all,” has now reached its climax.

In the span of two years, it has grown into a dominant force in the mobile esports scene, organizing competitions for well-known games such as Brawl Stars, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), Call of Duty: Mobile, E SPORTS FC™ Mobile, and numerous others. The community’s international events keep expanding to fresh territories, offering chances for amateur players to transition into professionals.

Sam Braithwaite, holding the position of Vice President for Game Ecosystems Mobile at EFG, pondered over the surge in rivalry.

The Snapdragon Pro Series started as an independent tournament series and quickly became the official, publisher-partnered ecosystem for some of the largest games in the world. 2024 continued to shatter records for the Snapdragon Pro Series with player participation and hours watched growing tremendously.

2024 was an incredible year for me as a gamer, filled with numerous tournaments that brought together seasoned veterans and rising stars alike. Together, we all worked our way up the ladder, aiming for the pinnacle of each game’s competitive scene.

2021 kicked off with me finding myself at the Snapdragon Mobile Masters tournament in Brazil. This event is the peak of the Snapdragon Pro Series’ yearly competition, and for the first time ever, two titles were up for grabs: Call of Duty: Mobile and Free Fire. The best gaming squads worldwide battled it out in an epic showdown for the championship and a whopping $200,000 prize money per game!

Michael Kiefer, a Global Senior Product Manager at EFG, remembered the large attendance and EFG’s initiatives to ensure that everyone could join the broadcast:

With 3,200 attendees over three days, we had packed the location with an electric mood which saw the Chinese Call of Duty: Mobile team, Qing Jiu Club, win and Reverse Red win the Free Fire competition. It was also great to collaborate with the public schools to provide the opportunity for their students to experience the event.

One of this year’s most memorable happenings was the Asia-Pacific Snapdragon Mobile Challenge Finals within MLBB, which became one of the most viewed and best-attended Snapdragon Pro Series events ever held.

Som Nuchapa Trivijitsilp, Senior Product Manager, Mobile at EFG, commented on this milestone:

The Snapdragon Pro Series Challenge Finals event in Kuala Lumpur had over 60,000 foot traffic for a 3-day event on August 2-4, 2024. We also recorded over 880,000 peak concurrent viewerships and generated over 11 million hours watched.

A significant achievement in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) community is the introduction of the Snapdragon Pro Series’ new women’s league in Southeast Asia this year. To elaborate on this, Som commented:

The first-ever women’s tournament for the Snapdragon Pro Series was held in May 2024 where more than 50 teams were participating and aiming to secure their slot to the EWC.

As a devoted follower, I can’t help but marvel at the epic scale of Seasons 5 and 6 of the Snapdragon Pro Series. These back-to-back seasons, spanning the entire year, set new records by offering the largest prize pool in the tournament’s history, a staggering USD $4.4 million in total!

2024 saw the formation of fresh alliances within the Snapdragon Pro Series. EFG had already unveiled revolutionary collaborations with game developers like MOONTON Games and Supercell earlier in the year. These partnerships not only fortified their existing ties but also opened up new avenues for players to explore games such as Brawl Stars and MLBB.

These collaborations led to exciting online gaming tournaments, along with physical Local Area Network (LAN) events. For instance, the Last Chance Qualifier for this year’s Brawl Stars Championship, held at gamescom in Cologne, attracted a significant number of players and spectators at the Koelnmesse.

Nicolas Linant, Senior Product Manager, Mobile at EFG described the occasion’s successes:

The Snapdragon Pro Series Mobile Event Arena, held on August 24–25 in Cologne, showcased remarkable growth and impressive results, underscoring the strength of our strategic partnership with Supercell via Brawl Stars. The event drew hundreds of thousands of attendees at the venue and generated 1,167,621 hours of content watched.

Towards the end of the year, EFG introduced EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile as its inaugural sports game among their lineup of products.

This partnership is part of the extended Year 3 plan within our ecosystem, featuring the debut of the initial season for EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile in Latin America and increasing the involvement of Snapdragon Pro Series in the global competitive scene of Call of Duty: Mobile.

By the year 2025, EFG aims to expand the horizon of international esports events, catering specifically to mobile gamers worldwide. They intend to leverage the impressive momentum achieved in 2024 by organizing a series of tournaments for their diverse game catalog.

Next year, it’s been announced that the Snapdragon Mobile Challenge Finals for MLBB will return to Malaysia for the Season 6 Finale in February. Following this event, the grand finale of the annual MLBB cycle, the Snapdragon Pro Series Mobile Masters, will be held in Southeast Asia in April, concluding Year 3 of the Snapdragon Pro Series.
