Bluey Movie in the Works From BBC Studios & Disney, Creator Issues Statement

As a dedicated fan of Bluey, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming movie! Having grown up with the charming Heeler family and their heartwarming antics, it feels like a dream come true to see the series get a big-screen adaptation.

For the very first time, BBC Studios and Disney have joined forces to create a feature film based on the hit Australian kids’ animated show “Bluey.” With the acquisition of its cinematic rights, Disney plans to debut this movie in theaters in 2027.

In the upcoming animated film, Joe Brumm – the mastermind behind the series – will take on both writing and directing duties. Notably returning to their roles as Bluey’s parents are Melanie Zanetti as Chilli Heeler and David McCormack as Bandit Heeler. This movie is being produced by Amber Naismith, with Joe Brumm, Charlie Aspinwall, Daley Pearson, and Justine Flynn serving in executive producer roles. The film will be supervised by David Greenbaum, president of Disney Live Action and 20th Century Studios, along with his team.

What did creator Joe Brumm say about the Bluey movie?

In a statement, Brumm expressed his delight in exploring a longer format during The Sign in Series 3, and he sees extending that to a full-length feature film as a logical progression. He’s long harbored the dream of giving Bluey a cinematic experience, aiming to create an immersive, family-friendly event. Brumm is thrilled about collaborating with Cecilia Persson, Tom Fussell from BBC Studios, and Dana Walden, Alan Bergman from Disney, to bring this new Bluey tale to the big screen.

Bluey is a popular, globally loved Australian animated television show for preschoolers, which has also resonated with many adults. This series was developed and penned by Brumm, and it’s brought to life by the multi-Emmy Award-winning Ludo Studio in collaboration with Screen Queensland and Screen Australia.
