Many viewers are eager to learn why Evan Hofer’s character, Dex Heller, departed from the popular daytime drama, General Hospital, after his dramatic entrance in 2022. Here’s why Evan Hofer’s Dex left General Hospital

The showrunners chose to creatively write off the character Dex, played by Hofer, on General Hospital, which resulted in an unexpected departure.

During an interview with TV Insider, Hofer shared that his departure from the show was strategically planned by the creators and no one in the cast had been informed about it. Initially, he inquired from executive producer Frank Valentini if they were considering a “thrilling demise” for Hex. At first, Valentini was hesitant but eventually, Hofer received the exciting send-off he anticipated.

Speaking about his conflicting feelings upon leaving the show, he remarked, “I grew quite fond of Dex during the past three years. It felt almost like grieving the loss of a friend when I told my mom. He was an amazing person, and I wished nothing but the best for him. Fortunately, he got to enjoy many of those good things.” Despite his sadness at ending the role, he expressed deep gratitude for having been given the chance to portray him.

Previously, Dexter and Lauren intervened to stop a fight among a rowdy group of intoxicated soccer fans. Afterward, Lauren pursued the fleeing soccer players, while Dex went to an alleyway to dispose of the liquor bottles. Unfortunately, Dex was unaware that someone was hiding in the alley behind him. This hidden individual attacked Dex with a knife. As a result, Dex had to be urgently taken to the hospital.

Initially, it’s disclosed that he will undergo surgery, with most anticipating his swift recovery. However, an unexpected turn of events has him confronting a sad end. As he seemingly recovers in the hospital, his girlfriend Josslyn and friend Anna Devane visit him. Just as they arrive, he suffers a cardiac arrest, ultimately leading to his passing.
