Alicia Silverstone and Netflix just made next Christmas a lot better

As a die-hard movie enthusiast with a soft spot for romantic comedies, I can’t help but get excited about Netflix’s upcoming offering, “A Merry Little Ex-Mas.” Having grown tired of the same old Hallmark Channel formula, it’s refreshing to see Netflix injecting some freshness into the genre. The plot sounds intriguing, and with a cast that includes Alicia Silverstone, Melissa Joan Hart, and Oliver Hudson, among others, I’m confident we’re in for a treat.

Netflix has become quite skilled at producing movies similar to those on the Hallmark Channel. However, instead of following the traditional formula, Netflix Originals often introduce extra layers of mystery. Unlike the predictable narrative of the boy moving to town, the girl trying to escape a troubled relationship, meeting and initially disliking each other, only to fall in love and live happily ever after on the Hallmark Channel, Netflix Originals tend to offer unexpected twists and turns.

In most Netflix films, we’re accustomed to seeing familiar faces. Next year (if all goes as planned), Alicia Silverstone will join Oliver Hudson, Jameela Jamil, Pierson Fode, and Melissa Joan Hart in a movie titled “A Merry Little Ex-Mas“. The screenplay was written by Holly Hester, who has previously worked on “The Royal Treatment“.

The story revolves around a divorcing pair who aim to celebrate one final Christmas together as a family with their kids, before the woman embarks on a fresh chapter of life. However, the problem lies in the fact that the man has a new partner and he draws her into the holiday celebrations, which appears rather heartless.

Alicia Silverstone and Melissa Joan Hart set to star in Netflix’s A Merry Little Ex-Mas

As a die-hard fan, I’m cautiously optimistic about this upcoming rom-com. Given its genre, it’s unlikely to delve deeply into prolonged melancholy or unhappiness. However, since the movie hasn’t been produced yet, we can only speculate on what the final product will be like. Here’s to hoping for a heartwarming tale of love and laughter!

Silverstone takes on the role of executive producer, while Hart and her mother, Paula, will produce the movie through their own production company, Hartbreak Films – a company they established themselves. This implies that some of the actors have a personal investment in the film’s success, providing additional incentive to deliver a top-notch performance for Netflix viewers, effectively making this project a gift from them to their audience.

A source of excitement lies in the fact that the film will be helmed by Steve Carr. Notably, his past works encompass films like “Paul Blart: Mall Cop“, “Daddy Day Care“, and “Next Friday“, to name a few. This suggests that the movie might contain a dash of enjoyable absurdity, which makes it a refreshing change from the usual predictable romantic films we’ve grown accustomed to, especially during Christmas.
