As a seasoned gaming enthusiast with a soft spot for sports titles, I can’t help but be thrilled about the partnership between EA and EFG for the Snapdragon Pro Series. With over three decades of gaming under my belt, I’ve seen firsthand how gaming has evolved from a niche pastime to a global phenomenon.
As a passionate gamer, I’m thrilled to be part of the exciting news that ESL FACEIT Group (EFG) and Qualcomm Technologies Inc. have brought EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile into the vast multi-title mobile esports platform known as the Snapdragon Pro Series, making it a part of my competitive gaming world!
Through this collaboration, the game became not just the initial Electronic Arts release within the ecosystem’s array of options, but also the inaugural sports game in the Snapdragon Pro Series.
The initial season for EA SPORTS Football Club Mobile is now active in Latin America. In this lively area teeming with mobile gaming enthusiasts, players are set to ascend through the competitive qualifiers in a bid to secure their spot at the LATAM Snapdragon Mobile Challenge, an offline event taking place in São Paulo from December 14-15, 2024. This will be the first such gathering for EA SPORTS Football Club Mobile in Latin America.
Before the much-awaited climax of this collaboration, we had a chat with two pivotal individuals involved: Sam Braithwaite, Vice President of Game Ecosystems at Mobile from EFG, and Sam Turkbas, Senior Director of Esports at EA SPORTS. In our conversation, they share their thoughts on the origins of this partnership and their future aspirations. We also delve into the upcoming São Paulo event and what it promises for both competitors and spectators.
What inspired the partnership between Electronic Arts (EA) and ESL FACEIT Group (EFG) to bring EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile into the Snapdragon Pro Series?
Sam Braithwaite (EFG): Over the last few years, EFG has worked closely with EA on various projects across our collection – such as aiding in the Apex Legends Global Series production and organizing the EA SPORTS FC 24 tournament at the Esports World Cup. At the Snapdragon Pro Series, we’re constantly seeking out mobile games that fans are eager for, and we found EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile to be one of those popular titles. This partnership not only strengthens our existing relationship with EA but also enables us to share this globally beloved mobile sports game with millions of fans and competitors worldwide.
Sam Turkbas (EA): Given the immense enthusiasm among EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile fans, we’re always seeking chances for the community to connect and compete in the global sport. Partnering with EFG to incorporate EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile into the Snapdragon Pro Series is a terrific platform for our players to express their fervor and support the top EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile players from LATAM during the competition.
EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile is notably the first sports game to join the Snapdragon Pro Series’ roster of offered titles. With soccer being such a global phenomenon, how much potential does this title have in creating a unique name for itself and paving the way for other sports games in mobile esports?
Sam Braithwaite (EFG): EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile has approximately 140 million players worldwide playing it every month, making it not only one of the most well-liked sports games globally but also one of the frequently played mobile games. Much of this popularity can be attributed to how widely spread football is. The widespread nature of the sport and game, combined with the Snapdragon Pro Series providing chances for competitors of all abilities, gives us a chance to quickly influence fans.
Sam Turkbas (EA): We’re thrilled that EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile is the first sports game to join the Snapdragon Pro Series. This mobile version of our football title extends global football enthusiasm, giving players a chance to express their love for the sport on a virtual field in an easy-to-access gaming format. It’s a great match for the Snapdragon Pro Series, and we can’t wait to see how the community responds!
The first Snapdragon Pro Series season for EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile is currently underway in Latin America. How much of an effect did the game’s passionate regional community play in the decision to host the game’s inaugural season in LATAM?
Sam Braithwaite (EFG): To accommodate diverse tastes across regions, we create games tailored for each area. For instance, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is hugely popular in Southeast Asia, whereas North American and European fans gravitate towards titles like Call of Duty: Mobile or Brawl Stars. In this way, we’ve built a global platform that caters to core player groups, and our aim is to do the same with EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile.
One of the world’s fastest-growing areas for mobile esports is Latin America, where EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile enjoys significant popularity among local gaming enthusiasts. Given the region’s fervor for both mobile games and football, EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile has become a common choice for gamers. This makes Latin America an ideal location for Snapdragon Pro Series competition.
In simpler terms, EA Sports FC thrives in Latin America’s football enthusiasm and skill, mirroring the essence of football fandom. We take great pride in our football collaborations throughout Latin America, ensuring they are accurately portrayed within the game.
It’s terrific that, with such an enthusiastic EA SPORTS Football Club Mobile following in Latin America, we can now include the game as part of the Snapdragon Pro Series for the very first time, allowing us to honor and commemorate our lively community in this region.
In your experience, what are the foundational pillars of an engaging esports circuit, and how have you tried to implement them in the current cycle?
One method to rephrase the given text in a more natural and easy-to-understand manner could be:
Sam Turkbas (EA): The foundation for an exciting esports league is that players enjoy competing, and we believed there was a strong desire for competition within EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile. The enthusiastic response from the community to this tournament demonstrates this. Moreover, offering opportunities for individuals of all skill levels to play, watch, create, and interact to celebrate their enthusiasm and fandom is crucial in developing a successful program. We are eager to observe the fans’ reactions, discover what they appreciated, and use that knowledge to improve further.
São Paulo will host the LATAM Snapdragon Mobile Challenge 2024. Brazil is known for its spirited esports fanbase. Have you felt this fervent excitement leading up to the event?
Sam Braithwaite (EFG):Last year’s Mobile Masters was our introduction to the intense competition spirit in this region. It was historic as Latin American teams qualified for a Snapdragon Pro Series global championship held locally. The enthusiasm of the millions of participants and the electric atmosphere at Mobile Masters gave us a taste of the ardor Latin American mobile esports fans have. We are eagerly anticipating immersing ourselves in this passion again during the Mobile Challenge Finals in December.
What activities and other experiences can players and viewers expect to see when the Snapdragon Mobile Challenge kicks off at the Komplexo Tempo?
Sam Braithwaite (EFG): Before the main event at Komplexo Tempo, there’s an exciting warm-up tournament happening. In this preliminary competition, participants can register on-site, and four lucky individuals will earn a spot in the Play-In stage directly. This is a golden opportunity for enthusiasts who believe they have the skills to challenge top players, as they take on the region’s finest. Furthermore, there will be various games and activities such as virtual penalty shootouts, accuracy and speed tests, table tennis soccer, and many more exciting attractions – all designed to commemorate EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile and Latin America’s enthusiasm for mobile esports.
Looking to the future, how do EA and EFG plan to build an esports ecosystem that allows players to progress from casual to pro status?
Sam Braithwaite (EFG): The organization of the Snapdragon Pro Series now provides EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile players with more chances than ever to create their unique routes towards professional play. We’re eager to extend the game to additional regions and maintain competitions across various skill levels, all in an effort to provide top-tier competitive experiences for a wide range of fans.
As an Enthusiast of EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile: I’m thrilled about the chance to shape my journey from grassroots to the professional scene, all within the realm of this fantastic game! The competition at every level – be it amateur or pro – offers a path for me to refine my skills and strive towards prestigious events on the calendar. This journey becomes more tangible through in-game challenges and external collaborations like the Snapdragon Pro Series. Now, the road to professionalism is more accessible than ever before, with EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile opening its doors to anyone with a mobile device!
Beyond fostering a competitive environment for EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile, what broader impact on players and communities do you hope to achieve through this partnership?
Sam Braithwaite (EFG): For a long time, there’s been a negative perception about mobile video games and sports titles, suggesting they can’t be considered real esports. However, the very aspects that critics mention – such as mobile gaming and sports games catering to casual gamers – have played a significant role in making EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile an outstanding mobile esport. The global popularity of this franchise and the availability of advanced mobile devices have sparked a wave of enthusiasm for EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile esports. Our partnership with EA through the Snapdragon Pro Series not only challenges this stereotype but also provides innovative, fan-focused experiences to gamers worldwide.
Sam Turkbas (EA): Approximately 3 billion individuals worldwide are gamers, each having a distinctive approach and viewpoint when it comes to interacting with the games they cherish. We understand that players of EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile participate for various reasons, some for competition, some for relaxation, and many as an extension of their love for football. Our aim is to develop top-notch gaming experiences and venues for all these players, and establishing a competitive program is crucial in achieving this goal. Our collaboration with the Snapdragon Pro Series helps us create significant experiences for our players that further fuels their enthusiasm for EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile.
