As a seasoned gamer with an affinity for both movies and fate, I must say that while I was initially disheartened by Andrew Garfield not getting to play Frankenstein’s monster in Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation, my spirits were quickly lifted upon learning that Jacob Elordi would be taking on the role.
Andrew Garfield expresses a sense of disappointment about not getting the lead role in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein film but is equally, extremely grateful for having been replaced by Jacob Elordi.
Currently, Del Toro is busy producing a fresh adaptation of Frankenstein for Netflix. Initially, Garfield was set to embody the monster in this film, but unfortunately, he had to withdraw from the project in early 2024 due to scheduling issues stemming from the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.
As I, a passionate gamer, step into a new role, I’ll be bringing Frankenstein’s monster to life on the big screen, while Oscar Isaac breathes life into Victor Frankenstein. The talented ensemble also includes Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, Charles Dance, Ralph Ineson, Felix Kammerer, and many more.
At the Red Sea Studio, as reported by Deadline, Garfield expressed his satisfaction over the fact that Elordi ended up playing the role instead of him.
What did Andrew Garfield say about Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi?
He expressed great joy that it was Guillermo and Oscar Isaac who were involved, but felt a tinge of disappointment because he didn’t have the opportunity to participate himself. He deeply admires Guillermo, Oscar, and the entire team, so he had been looking forward to being part of it. However, meeting Jacob turned out to be quite fortunate as it seemed like Jacob might have benefited more from that experience than him.
In the hands of Academy Award-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, the timeless story of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein unfolds. This tale follows Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant yet arrogant scientist who creates a monstrous being through an experiment, ultimately leading to the downfall of both the inventor and his pitiable creation.
Additionally, the film features Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, and Christian Convery among its star-studded cast.
Although Netflix hasn’t specified an exact launch date as of now, it’s anticipated that Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein will be released sometime in the year 2025.
