Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage season 1 episode 6 review: “The Regular Samaritan”

Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage season 1 episode 6 review: "The Regular Samaritan"

As a seasoned gamer of life, I’ve seen my fair share of twists and turns in the realm of television shows. But “Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage” has managed to hold my attention with its unique blend of humor, relatability, and a dash of moral dilemma. The episode “The Regular Samaritan” was no exception – it was as entertaining as a game of Gin Rummy between Georgie and Jim, and just as unpredictable.

Once more, fresh hurdles emerge in the narrative of “Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage”. In the sixth episode of season 1, titled “The Regular Samaritan”, the main conflict wasn’t about age differences; instead, it revolved around seeking financial abundance through faith and adhering to God’s Greater Plan. The story also delves into infidelity that surfaced due to this commitment.

First off, it’s never a good idea to mix financial success with religion, as materialism and money are the roots of evil. Any church that implements the belief of God granting wealth beyond your dreams by sacrifice isn’t a church but a cult. Sure, they start with promising intentions, but the intentions are designed to lure in naive, unsuspecting members. Soon, they’re entrapped in a toxic world that has everything to do with the leader’s moral compass and nothing to do with actual Christianity or religion, and it’s unfortunately too late to escape or break away from the cult.

Thankfully, Georgie does not reside within the church, which I would label as a group with cult-like characteristics, but that doesn’t imply he wasn’t swayed by its alluring prosperity. Instead, he employs this supposed sacred venue to endorse McAllister Tires, a company in need of a push during the 1990s when advertising was largely based on word-of-mouth recommendations.

However, let me explain how Georgie managed to get into the church and what his wife thought about this unexpected event – you’ll soon discover!

Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage “The Regular Samaritan” review

Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage season 1 episode 6 review: "The Regular Samaritan"

We’ve reached the sixth installment of “Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage,” where each episode emphasizes or brings to light their significant age difference. In “The Regular Samaritan,” the spotlight falls on Georgie’s church commitment, his involvement with the tire business, and trying to amass more wealth. These elements combined created a comical yet authentic episode that was enjoyable to watch.

I’d like to point out that there’s a special connection between Georgie and his father-in-law, Jim. Jim warmly welcomed Georgie into their family, and even mentored him. What’s heartwarming is they shared a pastime of Gin Rummy, with Georgie coming out on top by winning $11 from the game.

In truth, with Mandy regularly putting in overtime at the diner and Georgie working through the night to make ends meet, they hardly have time for each other. Despite their efforts to steal some private moments, it’s not enough, and the growing distance due to lack of affection is starting to strain their marriage.

Not to mention, Ceecee needs that bonding time with both of her parents.

Nonetheless, Georgie and Mandy have managed to resolve disagreements between them in the past. Given that they deeply care for each other and their child, and wish to maintain their relationship, they will likely find a way to make it work again.

Delving deeper into the situation, Georgie decides to become a part of a church after being encouraged by a charismatic member named Valerie, who strongly supports its beliefs. Despite Georgie asserting that his relationship with Valerie is purely platonic, others are skeptical due to his frequent visits to the church and Bible study sessions.

As a faithful follower, I found out that Georgie isn’t using his church time to carry on with Valerie, as some may suspect. Instead, he’s handing out business cards, all while being puzzled by the idea that God will multiply what you give Him by ten. Frankly, I can’t vouch for its effectiveness, but who knows what the cosmos has up its sleeve? Intriguingly enough, this twist in the story had me grinning ear to ear.

Meanwhile, Valerie harbored different intentions since she was growing fond of the married man. Inside the church, she enacted her schemes, but they turned against her when Georgie left unexpectedly. It was a double disappointment for Valerie when Mandy spotted her with Georgie and lashed out in anger, hitting her. This incident served to underscore the depth of Mandy’s commitment to her husband, who seemed equally dedicated to her.

In essence, although I don’t support or approve of violence except in extraordinary situations, Mandy acted justly because her punch represented a defense of her marriage and preservation of her young family.

The writers had the option to introduce a typical plotline involving cheating for added tension and surprise, but I’m relieved they chose not to, as it wasn’t necessary in this case. Neither Georgie nor Mandy seem inclined toward infidelity given the opportunities presented, considering their age and general public perception of them.

Some more Georgie and Mandy givings:

  • Georgie getting that diner to tip more on behalf of his wife and daughter was sweet in all the right ways.
  • Did Valerie not realized that she was trying to get Georgie to sin, and in church of all places?
  • Georgie zooming right by another pretty customer reflects that he doesn’t want to fall under the same situation again.

Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage airs on Thursday nights on CBS.
