As a seasoned esports enthusiast with memories of countless tournaments etched into my mind, I can confidently say that this year’s Shanghai Major playoff bracket is shaping up to be an electrifying spectacle. From the undefeated MongolZ to the young prodigy Spirit, each team brings its unique blend of skill and determination to the table.
Out of all these top-tier teams, it’s just Team Liquid that doesn’t follow the global rankings closely. However, they’ve demonstrated their superior skills to make it this far.
The Shanghai Major playoff bracket is set!
The competition starts this Thursday as The MongolZ face off against MOUZ in the first quarterfinal round. The Mongolian team is currently unstoppable, having won an impressive 13 consecutive matches without a single loss in Shanghai. They previously defeated MOUZ 1-0 during the Elimination Stage pool play, strengthening their reputation as potential surprise champions. However, MOUZ has been struggling in this tournament and will need to step up their performance substantially if they hope to progress further.
Following this, Spirit will go up against Liquid in a captivating contest. The young talent, Danil “donk” Kryshkovets from Spirit, has been consistently impressive, solidifying his reputation as one of the top players globally. Liquid, being the only playoff team not ranked among the top 10, has shown remarkable resilience throughout the tournament and will strive to outperform expectations. The victor of this clash will advance to face the winner between The MongolZ and MOUZ in the semifinals.
On the opposite side of the bracket, there’s an exciting showdown brewing between teams G2 and HEROIC. HEROIC has given G2 quite a headache this year, with numerous victories over their opponents, one being a dominating win at IEM Rio. Yet, G2 enters the competition in fine shape, having knocked out FaZe in a 2-1 match. This longstanding rivalry is set to add another exhilarating installment, as G2’s Nikola “NiKo” Kovač aims to claim his first Major title at last.
The upcoming quarterfinal match features Vitality taking on FaZe. As the champions of the Paris 2023 Major and winners of this year’s IEM Cologne, Vitality aims to end their year triumphantly. However, FaZe has a reputation for stepping up their game in playoffs and major events, so they will be ready to challenge Vitality in Shanghai. Notably, Finn “karrigan” Andersen and his team only barely qualified for the playoffs after winning against FURIA 2-1.
The quarter-finals schedule
- The MongolZ – MOUZ (December 12, 7 AM CET)
- Spirit – Liquid (December 12, 10 AM CET)
- G2 Esports – HEROIC (December 13, 7 AM CET)
- Vitality – FaZe Clan (December 13, 10 AM CET)
The playoffs for the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 are full of surprises. From The MongolZ’s remarkable journey to the Spirit team’s rapid rise, and G2’s swan song, it seems that anything can happen in what looks set to be an exciting and memorable conclusion to this tournament.
Who do you think will win the whole thing and be crowned champions come Sunday?
