What do we know about 28 Years Later?

28 Years After features Jodie Comer (The Bikeriders), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kraven the Hunter), Ralph Fiennes (Conclave), Jack O’Connell (Ferrari), Erin Kellyman (Solo: A Star Wars Story), and Edvin Ryding (Young Royals). Murphy is set to return as Jim, a character he played in 28 Days Later, although the extent of his involvement in the film remains undisclosed.

In an interview with IndieWire in October 2024, Fiennes hinted at the movie’s storyline: “The film takes place 28 years into a horrific epidemic where people have become violent, infected humans. It revolves around a young boy on a quest to find a doctor to save his ailing mother. He guides her through the stunning landscapes of northern England while being pursued by the infected. However, he eventually encounters a doctor who initially appears strange and peculiar but ultimately proves to be a beacon of hope.

Boyle’s upcoming sequel marks the beginning of a brand new trilogy. This film was actually filmed simultaneously with the second installment of the series, which is being helmed by Candyman and Nia DaCosta from The Marvels. As of now, there’s no confirmed release date for that movie.

28 Years Later is set to hit U.S. theaters on June 20, 2025, courtesy of Sony Pictures’ distribution.
