First One Chicago crossover in five years lands an air date and storyline details

As a seasoned gamer of the One Chicago universe, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming crossover event! Ever since the nail-biting, virus-ridden saga of 2019, I’ve been craving more interconnected storytelling across these beloved shows. The wait has been long and arduous, with obstacles like the COVID-19 pandemic and Hollywood strikes standing in our way, but it seems that fate has finally aligned for us.

At long last, it’s time for a One Chicago crossover, and we’ve got the first hints as to the plot!

Chicago has consistently amazed viewers with its skillful handling of crossovers. It’s not uncommon for the police officers from “Chicago PD” to lend a hand to the “Chicago Fire” team, and both groups often find themselves at “Chicago Med”. Additionally, there are ties between the shows, such as the Halstead brothers or “Fire’s” Mouch being married to “PD’s” Trudy.

In addition, it’s often seen that storylines overlap, typically between two series such as Fire and PD. NBC has taken this to another level by creating grand crossovers involving all three shows. The last instance was back in 2019 when they presented a chilling scenario where the three squads were dealing with a highly contagious virus outbreak in Chicago, which surprisingly mirrored real-world events.

The large-scale crossover we had planned was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other complications like managing a shared storyline across three series and the Hollywood strikes of 2023. However, TVLine reports that this much-anticipated crossover is now scheduled for Wednesday, January 29, 2025, promising another grand spectacle!

What’s coming on the new One Chicago event? 

According to TVLine, the storyline will move ahead in its schedule on Wednesday, January 29th. The evening will start with Chicago Fire at 8 p.m. Eastern/Pacific Time, followed by Chicago Med and concluding with Chicago PD.

The description of the event reads:

In case a powerful gas explosion occurs in a skyscraper, Chicago’s emergency responders swiftly mobilize to save numerous victims. Yet, it is the hidden disaster below ground that propels our heroes into a desperate mission to rescue 40 individuals who are trapped deep underground, among them being two of their own colleagues.

In this scenario, a disaster triggers the fire department into action, followed by the police officers managing the ensuing chaos (possibly one of them being trapped). The narrative concludes with medical personnel attending to the injured patients. Additionally, there may be suspicions that the incident wasn’t an accident, so the investigating cops will work to determine who is responsible.

Anastasia Puglisi, a co-executive producer on OneChicago, gave a sneak peek at the magnitude of the upcoming story arc.
