As a seasoned gamer with decades of pixels under my belt, I must say this week has been a rollercoaster of excitement and nostalgia! The updates on ConcernedApe’s Haunted Chocolatier have me buzzing like a caffeinated bee, eagerly awaiting the sweet taste of its gameplay. Meanwhile, the PlayStation 30th anniversary trailer has my heart racing with anticipation for Bloodborne 2 – though I can’t help but wonder if they’ll bring back that pesky old chalice-dwellers as a playable race this time around!
This week’s video game news is buzzing with excitement, and we’ll dive right into the stories that have our hearts racing!
ConcernedApe gives an update on Haunted Chocolatier
Instead of “It’s not quite Hollow Knight: Silksong,” you could say “Haunted Chocolatier, ConcernedApe’s follow-up to Stardew Valley, announced in 2021, hasn’t arrived yet, but Stardew fans have been eagerly waiting for any new details about the game.” This paraphrase maintains the original meaning while using simpler and more conversational language.
Due to Eric Barone’s extensive work on Stardew Valley with the release of version 1.5 and the subsequent 1.6 update (released twice this year, first for PC and then for consoles), he had to put aside his work on Haunted Chocolatier for a considerable period of time.
Now, there’s a fresh announcement on the game’s blog! In essence, they express gratitude for our understanding and share that they’re going to develop and release the game in a manner similar to Stardew Valley. So, let’s keep showing patience. This won’t be an early access title; it will be launched when it’s fully prepared. However, they did provide some brand-new images, and it appears every bit as enchanting as we anticipated.
Take all the time you need. We’re here when it’s ready.
PlayStation 30th Anniversary console updates
This week marked the beginning of PlayStation’s 30th anniversary celebration. In a moment, let me share some details, but first, here’s exciting news: there are limited-time retro themes available for your PS5 interface. My husband promptly selected the PS2 theme, and the familiar sounds brought back a flood of nostalgia for him. It’s a sweet nod to the past that gamers can appreciate, and I’m looking forward to seeing what other surprises they have in store over the coming weeks.
But speaking of that new trailer they released…
Is that PlayStation 30th Anniversary trailer a tease for Bloodborne 2?
Just as enthusiasts eagerly anticipate new developments on the Haunted Chocolatier series, Bloodborne fans have been yearning for any tidbits about a sequel – a longing that has persisted for quite some time now. The 30th Anniversary trailer unveiled by Sony even includes one of the final scenes from Bloodborne with the tagline “It’s all about Perseverance.
It appears they might be emphasizing the need for perseverance when playing a Souls game, rather than discussing the tenacity of Bloodborne’s fanbase waiting for a sequel. However, who knows? Maybe there’s still a chance!
But let’s quick backtrack to the PlayStation 2.
Total number of PS2s made and sold
When my spouse declared upon changing the PS5 interface to its retro PS2 style, it’s worth noting that the PlayStation 2 is among the most popular consoles ever produced, having sold approximately 160 million units worldwide. Interestingly, Sony seems to have come quite close to this figure in production. This means they nearly sold every single unit they manufactured. Quite an impressive feat, indeed!
New game releases this week
We’ve got two new releases this week we want to highlight for you.
To start off, there’s a game called “Infinity Nikki,” which falls under the free-to-play category of cozy gacha games and seems to be the fifth installment in its series! It has an appealingly adorable and comfortable vibe about it. Some people refer to it as being similar to “Genshin Impact,” but with a pacifist twist.
As a gamer, here’s my take:
Nintendo Switch Online adds more Donkey Kong
For Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, we now have additional content featuring everyone’s favorite ape – but it isn’t Donkey Kong 64 you might be thinking of.
Afraid it’s “Donkey Kong Land III” that I’m referring to here. Over the past few weeks, we’ve had “Donkey Kong Land” and “Donkey Kong Land II,” both for Gameboy, meaning you now have the entire trilogy at your fingertips. As for “Donkey Kong 64” and the Donkey Rap, they remain elusive dreams for now, but not today.
