Final Fantasy creator just launched a unique looking RPG

As a seasoned gamer with decades under my belt, I must confess that the gaming landscape has evolved significantly since my days of battling dragons on 8-bit consoles. The recent re-release of Fantasian Neo Dimension, now available on PC, is a testament to this progression, blending old-school charm with modern technology in a way that leaves me both awestruck and nostalgic.

Following its debut on Apple Arcade in 2021, the game Fantasian, developed by Mistwalker (a studio founded by the creator of Final Fantasy, Hironobu Sakaguchi), has been re-released in partnership with Square Enix for personal computer platforms.

Currently known as “Fantasian Neo Dimension”, this game takes you on a vibrant, cross-dimensional adventure to recover misplaced memories.

In this game, you take on the role of Leo, who finds himself in a strange, mechanized realm without any recollections. Once he understands that a menacing virus known as “Mechteria” lurks within these machines, he embarks on an exciting journey with his companions, engaging in strategic battles along the way, all in an attempt to rid the world of this viral threat.

In battle, you have the ability to attack multiple foes simultaneously. Whether they are lined up, arranged in an arc, or scattered across a wider area with an Area of Effect (AoE) attack, you can target them all. To streamline your experience and enhance enjoyment, you can also gather nearby hostile encounters and engage them all at once in a single battle.

The game’s striking visual appeal is due to a blend of handcrafted dioramas and computer-generated imagery, resulting in a one-of-a-kind style that seamlessly merges the worlds of digital artistry and real-world craftsmanship.

The updated version now offers fresh Japanese and English voiceovers, an enhanced difficulty setting, stunning 4K graphics, and the freedom to toggle between classic battle tunes and music from various Final Fantasy series soundtracks.

Have you had a chance to try out that game yet? I’m curious about your thoughts on the blend of actual miniature landscapes and computer-generated characters.
